Probably an obvious one, but is it possible to compose an SMS message on the key-pad (in it's closed position) like a traditional mobile phone? I know it wasn't on the earlier Ericsson smartphone.
SMS using Keypad
yep, although not very intuitive.
You need to find messaging from the jog dial, then create sms, then you can switch over to the keypad and put the details in.
It ain't T9, but its not that difficult to go back to normal texting.
Personally, I am getting quite quick at writing on the screen!
yeah me too, but think about only having one hand like riding the bus and the bus is not smooth, how can you write on screen normally??
I actually think the SMS side of the P800 is shite, having used mine for about a week now.
Whilst I don't send sms's when driving properly, if in slow traffic I do and I just can't do it with the p800. Bit gutted about it really..
Thanks for the feedback...of all the funtionality of the P800 this one could swing it for me. I find the 7650 fantastically intuitive and fast, it looks like the P800 sacrifices some of the basics (like T9).
Does anyone know if a T9 update comes and when?
And is there a Software from where I can write my sms over my P800?

A friend of mine says that T9 is licenced from Nokia, and as a result, SE has to pay Nokia a few quid for each phone sold.
I noticed that in the settings, the input method with flip closed has a pull down menu allowing selection (although there is only one choice!) Perhaps it's time to have a look at the SDK and see if we can come up with something ourselves...?
Don't know why a keyboard like the CHA-10 hasn't been released for this thing.. Although the CHA-30 bluetooth pen seems very promising...
