If Vodafone can do this, surely Nokia can with our pre-orders.
Nokia no longer care as much about their loyal customers in the uk they would rather try to please america for once . They know alot of us would pay silly money for this mobile not knowing when it's even going to turn up even if they did promise that pre-orders would reach the customer the same day as it's released in the shops (it won't).
I spoke to vodafone today to confirm i was definately told the right info regarding getting my N97 as an upgrade. One part of the conversation that surprised me was being told that those "upgrading" to an N97 and not pre-ordering will get thier phones first.
Still been given no solid date though, every person i speak to gives me a different answer 😞

Yeah, this is the main issue that most of us are upset about. One thing I know for sure though is, come the 19th, we'll have our answer.

Aye, you're right there. When Nokia start sending out their shipping confirmation emails to everyone who's pre-ordered, I can bet this forum will be overrun with messages from people saying "They've emailed me! Its on its way!!"... me included
Getting this phone for free is certainly a big boost for those going down the contract route.
The Vodafone prices seem quite ridiculous.
Take an 18 month contract at 40 a month, 150 on top for the phone. This comes to 870.
I've put together my own package with an O2 Simplicity card at 20 a month for 600 minutes, 1000 text and unlimited web and bought the phone for 425 - shhh. Total price 785 for the period.
The only one so far who I have seen cheaper, is http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/
Cheers
Simon
That's a very good deal, sjdean.
I'm sticking with my (very old) payg tariff with o2 and buying the phone myself. Tariff is 15/month with 150 minutes, 300 texts, o2's awards, surprises, and treats, and the web bolt-on for 7.50 month (which means I have 7.50 calltime each month).
Including 500 for the phone, that comes to 770 for the 18 month period, but sometimes I find I don't need to top up cos I'd be using the free allowance and barely touching my credit, so it's likely to be less than that.
Besides sjdean and myself, who else here has done the maths and got themselves a good deal for this phone?
I could pretty much switch to PAYG as well. I apparently use about 400 texts and less than 100 minutes a month. Data I think would be my biggy, but nothing major.

Because I'm on PAYG I'm limited to 200Mb on my web bolt-on, which I thought was utter tripe! However, in reality, I've found I only use about 20-30Mb of data each month so really I'm barely touching it, despite the fact that I use it for web browsing, facebook, email, and Bobba quite frequently. It's still worth having the bolt-on though because, without it, O2 charge something like 3/Mb.
