Whilst some of that BGR review strikes me as a little harsh, it's nice to see I'm not alone in thinking the following....
As far things like home screen widgets go, theyre cool. But just because you have live widgets on your home screen doesnt mean people will overlook how out of date and poorly designed S60 is becoming. Its almost like Nokia keeps bandaging the OS up and its starting to get more and more difficult to use and less and less relevant.
As much as I like S60's capabilities, it's rapidly falling down the same slope as Windows Mobile by just falling behind the curve. As powerful as the OS is, S60 desperately needs to get a bit of wow factor going, as nice as the widget homescreen is, one touch of the menu button and you might as well be right back to 2002 with the 7650. Heres hoping the Symbian Foundation can pull something good out of the bag and produce some software to do Nokia's hardware some justice (Oh and lets have an N97i with a capacitive display and xenon flash pretty please? 😊 )
You know what...? I've been thinking about the possible strategy behind this product and Nokia's strategy, my conclussion is that Nokia is not giving S60 5th (nor Symbian v2, etc.) the positioning we are thinkinf of. Nokia may be betting their money on a new Maemo platform, touch-friendly and with new-generation UI, which will power the "real thing" in terms of touch and "ultimate devices" from their fabs (i.e. the rumoured 4.2'' device and the Nautilus). The licensing of Immersion Tech. Haptics just makes sense in this scenario (to include it into the new OS, thus freeing internal resources for them to work on the OS itself).
As for the NSeries brand, It looks as their intention is to put ir into the Mid-End to make room for the Maemo devices.
This would make sense if true, and would be a great move. If I am wrong, Nokia are shooting themselves in the foot very badly.
Just playing a guessing game, though... Thought It would be good to post it just to listen to reactions and thoughts about this.

I think there has been the beginnings of a shift towards the mass market for the last year or two.
6120 classic being the phone that particularly comes to mind.
Also the fact that it was the 5800 not N97 that was first to market also seems to suggest this.
Agree on that, but maybe there is more into it than just a shift to mass market.. I've been having a look on the net to confirm this point and there are many rumours (even from Eldar from mobile review) talking about a new OS specific for new high-end phones, to be announced late summer/early fall in Germany.
Let's see how it develops, in the meantime I'll stick to my N958GB/5800 combo.. 😊
Rgds,

As long as your comfortable buying an N97 for the same price as a device that does have the faster processor, that's all that matters. It's your money.
You are right though. You probably don't need an OMAP3. But you do need 256mb of RAM, especially if you plan to use the homescreen widgets or do more than one things at a time.
