Okay guys, been running an E71 for over a year. Love it for S60v3 is boring me to bits. Only so many theme changes can cover up its age so I think i'm ready to go 5th edition but which handset?
The cheap and cheerful 5800 or the monster N97. I'm due a contract upgrade in September so an N97 wouldn't cost a bomb if I can wait it out but is it that much better than a 5800 which II could pick up sim free for well less than 200?
The N97's keyboard doesn't look like the deal clincher that it should be but the homescreen is nice and the better sunlight llegibility of the screen is promising.
I'm airing on the side of the 5800 at the moment. Do you guys think it's likely that Nokia may implement the N97 homescreen into the 5800 in future firmware? That would seal the deal for me I think
I'm really hoping the homescreen of the N97 is implemented in the 5800 too - they run the same OS at the same screen resolution so it wouldn't be too difficult surely? Nokia are quite generous with firmware updates so I'm really hoping they do add these features.
I was also in the same position as you, but I went for a 5800 because from pictures you could tell the N97 keyboard would be awful. Granted, the on screen keyboard on the 5800 could be called worse, but the alpha numeric mode for typing is fantastic on the phone, and I find myself texting just as fast as I would on a regular, physical buttoned phone.
The N97 offers relatively little more over the 5800, and it all seems like Nokia except consumers to pay for the 'N series' branding. The camera on the 5800 isn't outstanding, but neither is the N97's from what I've read...so to cut a long story short, I'd go for the 5800 😊 it's the best phone I've ever owned! If Nokia can improve the homescreen then it would be amazing.
