I'm tired of posting about my problems with Contacts, Accuweather and a few other warts of the N97, so I'm going to change the subject to something really positive.
I took my N97 NAM on a trip with me for the last two days and tried to get used to all of the features. This morning I had some time on my hands so I started "digging" into the menu picks of various applications.
When I got around to the camera--I WAS AMAZED!!!
When you're in the 5.1 MP camera mode, pick the CBA button that looks like three horizontal lines--I'll call this "MENU"
You'll be greeted with the following options:
1. SCENE MODE --- this presets your camera for everything from portraits, Close-up (like 4" away!), Landscape, Sports, Night and Night Portrait
2. VIDEO MODE --- take video instead of stills
3. SHOW GRID --- for planning scene composition
4. SELF TIMER --- off, 2 seconds, 10 seconds, 20 seconds. Now we just need a way to put the N97 on a tripod (any suggestions?)
5. COLOR TONE --- Normal, Sepia, Black & White, Vivid and Negative.
6. WHITE BALANCE --- Automatic, Sunny, Cloudy, Incandescent, Fluorescent.
7. EXPOSURE --- +/1 2.0 in increments of 0.5
8. LIGHT SENSITIVITY --- Automatic, Low, Medium, High.
9. CONTRAST --- +/- 5 levels.
10. SHARPNESS --- Hard, Normal, Soft.
11. SEQUENCE --- WOW!! Think rapid fire shooting like a auto-advance professional camera.
12. PHOTOS --- a photo browser, editor for changing or adding image information, or deleting bad shots, emailing/uploading.
I like to think that I'm a bit more of an advanced user than most--I use my Olympus digital camera in manual mode a lot to get just the right effect and partly because the AUTO settings on most cameras, just don't get it right.
I am pleasantly surprised to find a rich assortment of settings on the N97 to make my picture-taking better.
I strongly suggest that those of you out there learn to adjust and set the WHITE BALANCE on your camera. This is probably the most important setting on digital still *AND* video cameras. Setting this feature on your camera will let you take better photos in low light situations without a flash.
