N97 Received Faulty from Nokia

10 replies · 5,484 views · Started 23 June 2009

At last my new N97 arrived today and has had to go straight back.

Love the look of the phone but mine was totally dead - won't turn on - won't charge up ( with either cable ). Phoned Nokia care - should be renamed Nokia DON'T Care - who said it will have to be sent back for a repair.

First - a REPAIR - I want a new phone.
Second - Told it would take at least TWO WEEKS

So I cancelled my order and demanded a full refund - That will take UP TO 30 Days.

At least when I get my monies back the phone will be available via the shops so I can check its working before I leave the shop.

To my mind Nokia should have despatched a new replacement today and had the carrier when delivering it collect the faulty one.

I think their service stinks.

sorry folks for the rant - but I had been really looking forward to getting this phone.
😡

Terrible service!!!

Early adopters of their 'flagship' device should be treated a lot better. You've every right to rant, I'd be livid.

My "White" N97 arrived today also, i had a go at nokia for not getting the phone to me for release day, after all at 499 you would expect the goods on release date as nokia are aware of it well in advance.
Sorry to hear about your phone though and i think i would have done the same, you can get it on a network at the end of this week for 45 p/m over 12 months!.

If the phone was defective when they sent it to you, the refund should be instant. Under the sale of goods act you are entitled to a full refund. Contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau or do some googling.

The worst case scenario should be a 3 day wait for them to 'reverse' a credit card / debit card transaction. Sounds like they are taking the p*ss to try and make their monthly sales figures look better.

Oh and if you bought it mail order / via the internet you are also covered by the distance selling regulations, which I think give you 7-14 days (can't remember which) to return the phone and get a refund even if it did work - as long as you haven't used it.

Thanks for the support and helpful suggestions.

The point you make above is interesting as I have read on other forums that Nokia are charging customers a 15% restocking fee if the phone is returned simply because the buyer doesn't like it or changed their mind.

Mine went back yesterday with proof of postage so I will post again as and when my credit card is refunded.

Not true, Nokia Online Shop operates a 14 day no quibble cooling off period, you may return your phone at any time during that period by emailing or calling them, they will then email you a freepost returns label.

You get a full refund for the device (but not your shipping charge)

I feel for you Bob.

My N86 was faulty on arrival (and I paid the extra to get it within three days). They sent me a 2nd class return label, so the phone should have taken 5 days to get back to Nokia. On the friday, I called them to see if they had received it. They said they had, and that I should get a replacement the next day, or on the monday (bearing in mind this gentleman sounded like he was thousands of miles away) Monday came and went and nothing. I called them this afternoon and they said that the phone had been received TODAY (it's tuesday) :con? and that I should get my replacement NEXT Monday and that I had received an email about it (they told me that I had received an email!!!!) I checked, and nothing.

If they send me back a repaired model after all this time, I WILL be demanding a full refund including the extra I paid.

If Orange can send me a replacement device in 24 hours and collect the faulty one, why can Nokia not do the same? Ah, that's right, they ALREADY have my money.

Well it's now been 4 weeks since I posted back my faulty N97 and I have heard absolutely nothing from Nokia UK nor have I received my refund.

I have been trying all day to get through to them but after hanging on for up to 15mins a time ( at work ) I still am no wiser. Tried sending an email this evening to customer services but don't expect any sensible reply.

As I really wanted the N97 I didn't wait for my refund but ordered the phone through Expansys. Placed the oder on the Thursday eve at 7.30pm got an email about 10mins later saying order okay, another one about 10mins after that saying it had gone to despatch received the phone at 10.45 am next day. Absolutely wonderfull service.

Love the phone hate nokia uk.
