Music Library

The option to refresh the Music Library seems to be missing.

Is anyone else experiencing this or have I gone completely madder?

Open up the Music Library where it lists Artists, Albums, Playlists etc (Either by using the shortcut in the shortcut 1 widget, or by opening "Music" and going to "Music Library"😉, and then press Options -> Refresh library.

I see Show open apps., Go to Music store, Music library details, Help and Exit - but no refresh option. What on Earth is going on?

Just checked mine. Go to Music ( from main menu ) then go to Music Library( not Music Store ) so the screen displays Artists, Albums etc. Press Options and Refresh Library is second option.

I have those items too, but "Refresh library" is slotted between "Show open apps." and "Go to Music store". Strange how yours isn't showing...

And now it's (re?)appeared right where it should be. Very strange.

I hope nothing else decides to vanish like this - though I have read a few posts about the content of the SMS inbox disappearing!

Yeah, you will surely get annoyedd. Music is a known soother, stress-reliever, and entertainer all in one. It can get you through the most boring parties even! I hope you'd be able to fix your Music Library soon.

I had the same issue. I had to synchronise at least one file from Windows Media Player to enable the "refresh library" option. Not clever but seems to work

Just noticed today, the slight difference to the Music app to the N95's.

N95 - when playing music, and you then went back to the home screen, there was a line on the screen telling you the Music app was open, and which song was playing, / paused etc.

The N97 doesn't do this, but I can see why, as my homescreen is probably too full of other info with all the widgets and wot not. But, while the music is playing, even in the main menu screen, the icon for Music doesn't have the little green cricle around it to show that an application is still open and running. A bit odd?

I don't think it's odd. The N97 does have this option, when you add the Music player widget to your home screen, so it's completely optional. It shows the artist, title and album art of the currently playing song, and from the home screen itself you can play/pause, and go back and forth through tracks.

I still find it odd that with the music player open and playing music, in the main menu screen, there is no little whirling green circle to show you that the Music app is open. According to that main menu screen, the Music player is not open and not being used?

So, I tried this with the video player. Went into videos, started playing a film, paused, and then pressed the main menu button and went back to main menu. Its the same as with the music player, there is no little green circle to show you the app is still open?

Having said all of that, I have now set the music player widget on the home screen anyway.

Is there an option to download album art, or does it have to imported with the song when copied to the phone?

There are two ways to do it (as far as I know), both of which require you to alter the ID3 tags in the mp3s; have the album art in the same folder as the music it needs and make the songs point to it, or embed the album art into the files themselves.

The former is better for saving space as multiple songs can refer to the same image file, but the latter is easier in the long run as you can have your songs anywhere and they'll still have the album art in them. I always go for the latter option, personally.
