I set the priorities in connections to wi-fi first then O2 mobile web GPRS connection, but whenever I boot my phone, the 3.5G arrows become solid, indicating that something is accessing the web and spending my money!!!
I've removed the accuweather widget from from the front screen, I disabled weather and currency sneaky auto updates in the psiloc traveller app.
But I can see in the call/data log that something still uses my O2 mobile web access point, but don't know what else it could be.
The phone is U.K. standard, with only the standard suite of pre-installed apps and utilities.
Could it be Download app? Ovi store? Help....throw me some idea please........??
n97 keeps accessing gprs/3g network
3.5 G is also used for phone : calling , SMS etc . When there is a datatransfer to feed an Application , it must be one that's needing actual information , like weather , IM , navigation , etc. , but maybe it is a O2 Application doing this ?
See also this thread about settings : http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/85128/
Maybe you can check settings in other Applications as well ...

I was wondering about the same thing.
In my case the 3G connection was used by AGPS which is (and should) set to use the 3G connection.
You might want to keep an eye on the actual data that is transfered - after all, your are paying for the amount of data that is going over the 3G connection, not for the time you are connected.
In my case this usually makes up for 3-4 kB per hour - which is basically nothing.
Phate
Wait you got an N97 without a data plan?
Fail
unplugged......does your uninformed comment have anything to do with my question? don't think so......fail.
anyway for anyone similarly wondering what their n97 is up to, i found that the rogue program was the nokia messaging v10 update app. it was doing its thing even though it was not set up for push. uninstalled it and my data connection is back under my control.

No, it doesn't, but he kinda has a point.

Had the same problem.
It's a great app, but it's access point connection isn't updated like the other newer applications.
For example, using the built-in "priorities" settings, I set up wifi networks as highest priorities and use 3G/GPRS as lowest. Every single app was connecting through wifi and automatically fell back on 3G when I move out of wifi coverage.
Nokia Messaging is the only app that can't recognise the priority settings, since it can only detect Access Points and uses them directly.
So my N97 is pointlessly wasting battery with both the wifi and 3G handling data simultaneously.
The person who owns those credentials is I and I have a data plan. What are you doing posting such information?
