XXIE6 playing up!

Hi all

I flashed the other day with I8910XXIE6 (polish version) and though everything initially seemed fine, I soon found some oddities with it.

For a start, all my contacts would not show up after restoring from my backup. A factory settings restore from the phone management sorted this out.

I noticed that there was also still some references remaining to Orange stuff in some menus; Orange Maps were still on the phone and Orange Plus was in the Tools menu!!!

Which leads me to my next point. Just prior to the debranding, my early poor battery life issues had been resolved by disabling the video sharing etc described on many forums....I'd easily get 2 days with quite heavy-ish use. Since debranding onto this firmware - my battery life is awful again, even though the earlier fixes have been re-applied again. Today for example, I got up at 5am to go to work my 12hr shift - but the phone never made it past 3.30pm - and that was with virtually NO use apart from 2 txts sent!! 😡

I'm wondering if the remnants of the Orange stuff is doing something in the background and ripping the back out of the battery.....(even though there's nothing showing up in Handy Taskman!)

Has anyone who's debranded to this firmware, still got any Orange references on their fone anywhere? If so, are you having battery issues too?

Thx for any input....

Think I've found out the prob with the battery life....if anyone's suffering the same symptoms.

As I said, I could almost see the battery draining right before my eyes...

However, I thought about it and did a HARD reset (*#7370#)

On the reboot there was a diff screen greeting me - asking for my [worldwide] location - never had this last time!!

Twas all in Polish so couldn't find anything that looked like UK/Great Britain so chose USA and OK'd the time date prompts etc....then followed the YouTube guides for changing the language to English...and then went to restore my stuff.

THIS time however....I chose what to restore...and just selected 'Contacts'...this is the important bit I think - last time when restoring - I just clicked 'Next' and restored everything....which includes model-specific settings!!!

This is why I still had the references to Orange World etc on my phone I reckon.....and this is what was draining the battery, it was screwed up trying to connect or something...dunno what exactly, but I'm pretty sure it must've been something to do with that!

Same scenario as yesterday (today).....got up at 5am for work, did the Hard Reset etc and took phone to work with me. It became obvious by 10am that the battery wasn't draining as it did yesterday so started changing settings, playlists and generally messing about with the phone from then till home time...

It's now nearly 8pm and I'm still on 4bars 😉

So next time I debrand/update the firmware - the first thing I'll do is a hard reset - followed by the restoring of contacts, Notes etc; .....and anything NOT 'settings specific'...and see how that goes 😃

A Russian IF2 firmware is out, which is even nicer than the Polish IE6 (a Polish IE7 is out as well) - I would recommend updating to this...

...but this time, you don't need to worry about doing a hard reset; and if you backup your IE6 configuration, it is safe to restore ALL of this into IF2

OK - thanks Stu -

Just been reading about it on one of the other forums...though there's a mention of some of the icons remaining in Russian, even after changing the language over to English - which sounds a bit pants :frown:
