I just called Orange to get my N95 8GB unlocked since I now have my nice new shiny N97.
So I called Orange and got the automated service saying enter the 3rd and 7th letter of your password to continue, no problem, I've got a keyboard now!
So I flipped open the keyboard and pressed the correct letters when required, nothing, it didn't recognise the key pushes.
Ok, I'm not stupid, flip back to landscape and use the numerical soft keys, errrrr they don't show the corresponding letters as you would see on a T9 keyboard...aahhhh!
I ended up having to look at my old phone to quickly figure out which numbers I needed to press for the corresponding letter.
I also use a couple of other services that operate in the same way so this will VERY quickly become annoying. 😡
Does anyone know if it is possible to change the numerical soft keys to show more than just numbers?

i'd of thought most people would know what letters are on what key numbers by now.
obviously it's just me...
Hmm that's an interesting one - presumably the thought was that you'd only need numbers for making the calls, but as they've got text on the virtual keyboard for text message input and other input such as website addresses, then I suppose it's not unreasonable to expect that Nokia may make it possible to have the letters on the keys on the "dialer" display at some point.
Whilst I know where a lot of the letters are, I'd not be confident enough to say I knew all of them and definitely not for the security checking of getting in to an account - get them wrong and you could find yourself locked out and inconvenience until you're allowed back in...
I already brought this up on the 5800 cause it is also missing the letters on the dial pad, and everyone said "we don't use them here in europe". And the 5800 doesn't even have the physical keyboard! How the hell am i supposed to call 1800FLOWERS or even more complicated, how do i enter my voicemail password. Or what happens when my bank asks me to enter the first 3 letters of the month of your transaction in question. There are countless more real world examples.
But everyone said they don't do that stuff in europe. Ok fine, then why did nokia leave this out of the usa version where we DO use this function alot.
Last month i had to pay a speeding ticket, over the phone was the ONLY option is i got ticket out of my state, not even possible to pay on a website, and no way to talk to an actual person. Forced to use the automated system. And i had to enter all letter info, the ticket was alpha characters, the month of the violation, etc.
Nobody will admit that nokia COMPLETELY forgot this function on the 5800, and didn't even fix it with updates. Nor did they fix it on the n97. Absolutely horrendous if you ask me. Did they not USE the phone after they built it?
Thankfully, because the numberpad is purly run by software and doesn't use physical buttons, this could be resolved in a firmware update for all we know. Maybe the letters could be added using a custom theme. I might look into this...

Nope, me too. Although it's amazing how easily your mind goes blank at just the wrong moment. Well, mine does. Obviously it's just me...
