I wouldn't trust that info. Today Nokia called me offering up a E71 while my phone is in the shop, First call they said they wouldn't have the parts for 2-3 weeks. When I called back and just asked for a new phone, they admited they didn't know if its software or hardware and support wants me to have a E71 so I'm not without a phone for a while. When I asked if the would guarantee that the new release of software would fix my problem, they said they couldn't.
So they are sending me a box and I'm sending it back and getting a 100% refund. If they had a release of software coming out on July 1st they would not be offering me a loaner phone. The 7-10 biz days to repair my phone would be up after Jul 6th so keep dreaming, no update on Jul 1. I would bet by the end of July or first of August and not before. I can invest my money in a 2% account while those of you keeping the mess called N97.
Full disclosure, I have only owned Nokia phones for the past 15 years. It stops on my N97 - which is getting returned
I really hope it is true because mine is full of bugs and annoying features.
Starting to think I should have got the I-phone, but know the N97 will be excellent once the updates come through.

Either you have unrealistic expectations, or you are nave in your dealings with large corporations; In most large companies, the people who answer the phones (and the emails) are poorly paid and generally 'out of the loop'.
Whenever I call up a network operator or even a hardware supplier like Nokia or Dell in the UK, I usually find I know more about their product than they do, so unless you have been talking to someone in Finland about your N97 problems, I would take what they tell you with a pinch of salt.
Availability of v11.0.021 is being widely reported:
http://thesymbianblog.com/2009/06/25/new-n97-firmware-v110021-hits-rda/
The firmware release may or may not happen on the 1st July, but you can be assured that there will be an N97 firmware release imminently. The N97 is now available via most channels and the latest firmware is dated 15-May.

The Symbian Blog also reported that the N97 was coming out on June 2nd. and that didn't happen. The internet is full of people that hide behind their keyboards because they don't have to account to anybody for being wrong.
As for being naive, um I disagree, I didn't call them they called me, they said they were from the Executive Office of Nokia. Not support, Not sales, but a special group to handle larger issues. When I talked to support they would not provide a 100% refund, when these guys called me, they even are providing a box to ship the unit back in. So yes I have worked in large corporations and yes I do know how large corporations work. Nokia knows it has problems with its $700 N97, otherwise, why did they call me, and why use a name like "executive office" and have a special 800 number to call, which by the way is 800-255-0239. Give it a call and see how they answer it.
At this point it doesn't really matter to me when the new software comes out. I got suckered in in pre-ordering a flagship phone, that for me I could not use with the bugs in the software. I will have all my money back and and am free to buy an iPhone Palm Pre or HTC Google phone, or even a N97 again in 6 months at half the cost and software that works.

The updated firmware is already available on RDA - Remote Device Access - the remote testing service, so it is real. The only question is when it, or a derivative will be available for installation onto real and not virtual devices.

I'm in the UK, and I don't doubt for a moment that they answer the phone 'executive office', but googling the number leads me to believe it's the Nokia US customer services escalation, not a bunch of Finnish guys sitting around in suits.

I seem to remember the iPhone and the G1 had a few bugs when they were released. It's back to that naivety again... every Nokia phone I've ever had (and most other non-Nokias) had bugs in their first firmware version.

so you give up just because you had a faulty phone :con?

I'd just like to clear one thing. The Symbian Blog did NOT report that the N97 was coming out on June 2nd. Please get your facts straight before making accusations. By the way I loved your second sentence, how true.
The info on Twitter is from an official Nokia source (Nokia Conversations) so that's a good indication.
But of course until it's actually available there's limited point in taking about it (hence the reason we tend not mention such things on the front page of AAS). Plus it will roll out into different market at different times (and operator variants etc etc).
is for the network to switch back to higher priority networks (i.e. wifi) when in range and for all the widgets to use the same connection. that'd be fab...
other than that i've had my n97 for 2 days now and i love it...
while waiting for my N97 to arrive i started reading the storys that the touch screen was rubbish, it was slow etc etc but having used it for a week the screen is fine and its far from slow i sometimes wonder what these reviews sites are actually talking about but then again i guess they dont want to make it look to good incase it takes the spotlight from their favorite phone.

You are correct, I stand corrected. Its was the Nokia blog that reported the N97 to ship on June 2nd.

I gave up because NOKIA shipped to customers (including me) a faulty phone and software.,

so your telling me that another company say apple or samsung etc check every single phone they send out? i got news for you they dont, a friend got the new iphone which wouldnt even turn on so had to be replaced.

If you read all my posts, you would know its not about 1 phone, but the whole process and being lied to by Nokia. Recap: Nokia said they wouldn't have the parts in for 2-3 weeks, when I called back and said just send me a new phone. The tech then reversed their statement and said they didn't know if its hardware or software. Had they said that the first time around, I wouldn't be mad at them, but they tried to make me believe hardware parts were at fault on my phone.
They should have said, "the software is most likely the issue and we won't have a patch for 2-3 weeks, would you like to return the phone or can we mail you a loaner phone so you are not without a phone for 2-3 weeks"
I'm guessing they could not reproduce the problem with their phones and wanted to keep mine because it showed the problem every time I tried to unlock it.
Again bad phone hardware/software, bad customer service, all around bad experience. And I doubt I will buy an iPhone because I can't install my home grown applications without paying Apple $99 for a dev kit and going though Provisioning hell to set my phone up to be able to download an application I have to register with Apple. I'm keeping my N95 till I see the new HTC and wait for a couple of weeks after its in the public's hands.
Seems it's official?
Some good sounding updates in there, especially multi touch!

EDIT: Now not 100% sure this is real.... hope it is though.

Do we know who is a real voice of Nokia, who actually has info about products and releases?
awysocki wrote:Do we know who is a real voice of Nokia, who actually has info about products and releases?
I don't trust random forum posts and although the "new firmware on 1st July" news looks to come from a credible source (the Nokia Conversations blog - official Nokia), this post does sounds a little too good to be true.
I live in hope though .
it seems the list of updates is fake. the update is coming on that day, but i dont think kinetic scrolling and such will come with it.
The giveaway is at the end where it says multi-touch has been added. To the best of my (limited) knowledge this simply isn't possible with resistive touch screens.
Multi-touch?
Tried and proven. You can even test it yourself.
Just as everything else on the internet, I will take with a grain of salt but hope for the best.
Just ran the ovi updater and its released =) gonna backup then update =) yay!!

I've tested it myself...it works.
Funny that I didn't even think multi-touch was a problem for n97 (until I read this thread). Personally, I prefer the "tap to zoom" as opposed to "pinch-contract" in the iphone since that'd only function correctly on capacitive, and would be a pain for resistive.
