Screen Protector

Hi All,

Quick question for everyone with an N97. Are you using a screen protector or not? If so which one, or should I not worry ...

Every touchscreen gadget I've ever bought I've had screen protectors for. Even the toughest screens need help sometimes. I watched all the videos of the tests n97geeks carried out and I was quite impressed at just how robust the N97 is, but it only takes one drop face down onto a solid object to require a new screen. I've used Martin Fields screen protectors in the past and I'll probably get the same make for my N97. For now mine still has the one that was already fitted.

i also use martin fields screen protectors, there very durable and can be washed, just waiting for blueunplugged.com to get them in stock.

main reason is when I got my phone it had a big OVI sticker on top of the screen protector
.. I accidentally peeled off both .. tried once to put it back failed and went "ah .. stuff it"
.. I keep my phones in cases anyway .. 95 came with a Nokia case
.. I bought a nice leather after-market one for the 97 .. so the screen is well protected
.. I also carry the cleaning cloth by resting it on the screen then closing the case .. works well.

I highly recommend a case. My N95 is still perfect after 2 and a bit years. Its still my main phone.

No offense but can you explain to me how a screen protector is going to protect the screen from a crack due to a solid object hitting the screen at high speed? Thats like someone complaining someone didn't have their helmet on when they collided with a car at 80mph...not really gonna help at that point

Yes, Ive usually had screen protectors on my devices. Had one on the old Sony Ericsson P900 ( remember them? ) and P901, also put one on my PSP.

When I got the N95, I put one on straight away, but usually try to leave on the original screen protector as long as I can. When I got my 6680, it had the original screen film on for about a year til one of the kids mates pulled it off. Grrr!

However, with the N95, the screen protector had been on for about a year, when I still damaged the screen and it cracked, leaving it pretty unusable. Had to send it away for repair, which to be fair was only around 30quid, but still had to be without the phone for week / ten days or so.

Had the N97 for a week now, and still have the original one, but want to buy a more robust one. Cant find one in the shops here in Saudi, not a decent carry case, want to buy a nice case, which I dont usually, as it wither detracts from the phones looks, or its too bulky to carry around in my trouser pocket ( phone ALWAYS goes in left hand pocket , on its own, with nothing else in that said pocket ! ).

It wont protect it from everything, but day to day, it should give peace of mind.
