Received my shiny new N86 the other day and was very impressed with the S60 v3 FP2 software and the design of the whole phone itself. Unfortunately the camera had a HUGE fault.......the capture button didn't work, so i couldnt take any photos :frown:
I'm sending the phone back on monday, and will recieve a replacement, but despite spending �400 on a faulty device, I am impressed with it. It's a worthy successor to my trusty N95 and for those that like the sliding form its well worth upgrading to 😊
Maybe next year, we will have a touchscreen device on the market that is worth buying and that ISN'T the Iphone 😉
Nokia N86 (returned)
I am thinking of getting the N86 also. It seems like a great phone.
Any idea if Route 66 will work on it? I know it works on the N78 without problems and I think the N86 runs similar software?

I am glad you appreciate the odd faulty handset slips through the production line QA, and that you are giving the N96 a 2nd chance. 😉

I take it you discounted the 5800XM? I had an N96 and just never took to it (had an N95 and N82 previously).
I now own an 5800XM and apart from the downgrade to 3.2MP camera, I think it's miles better than any other Nokia handset (excluding perhaps the new N97 which I have not yet played with).
The 5800XM is now pretty similar spec to the latest iPhone 3GS, and until 2 weeks ago was more advanced in hardware and functionality than the iPhone 3G.
I generally feel that I was lucky with my N95, and have never had any problems with the slider. Plus what kept me from upgrading last year was the v20 firmware. If the N86 gets as many updates and tweaks as that old device I'll be very happy.
I've not tried the 5800, but I'm under the impression that while touchscreen is a good idea, it's still early days yet, and I'll wait for it's successor to appear before I decide to try it.
I also don't want to have to keep my phone in a sock to protect it's screen, a minor gripe I know :tongue:
To answer your question about route 66 is that yes it works perfect,most apps that are compatible with the n95 work on the 86. I cant wait for new firmware to perfect the camera.

You don't really need a sock or screen protector with the touch-screen on the 5800XM (you are probably thinking of the glass capacitive screen used on the iPhone, which is VERY easily scratched?)
I have had my 5800XM for 2 months and have no scratches on the screen at all.
The resistive touch sensitive screen outer layer on 5800XM and N97 is soft/rubber film feel to it so many of the AAS forum users owning one have decided not to bother with screen protectors.

Yeah im a fan of garmin too,the maps are very detailed and in remote places garmin is very good. Hm in a town in eastern europe where nokia maps,sygic and route66 have no maps for but garmin has a detailed map for.
I'm a little annoyed with Nokia at the moment. The standard procedure for returns seems to be to send you an email containing a link to a website with instructions and a label to print for your package. I was disappointed to find that, after sending me a faulty handset that the return was for only second class postage.
Not only that, I was promised an email when the phone was delivered to them. I've had nothing (even though I know it was received on friday). I've been told the replacement would be with me today at the latest......
I actually expected better customer service from Nokia, especially to customers who buy handsets at top prices. In comparison, Orange replaced my N73 in just 24 hours (but that may be because I still had money to give to them in the form of a contract)

You've got this a little backwards. The iPhone has a glass screen that is very difficult to scratch. The 5800 has a plastic screen that's easier to scratch.
