I had to do a soft reset and now I'm missing all the games that were on the phone when i got it.
Are they available on ovi? It was the guitar one and some others that I'd not played yet.
I also lost all of the apps I downloaded from ovi, however the one that I had installed on mass memory and not phone memory was still listed in application manager - can I re-create the shortcut?
Thanks for any tips! 😊
It looks like you did a hard reset . A soft reset only brings the phone back to Factory Settings . A hard reset deletes all the data from the device Memory Disk . The lost data you have to reinstall again after the Hard Reset . So you actually need a Backup for these data , including Apps , Calendar , Contacts , etc .
Here a thread about resetting :

After one of my soft resets I went into my games folder and found everything missing, but they were actually moved to the very bottom of my Applications folder. This has happened several times already, maybe check there?

Yeah, I got the same problem! Did a hard re-set - when in fact I thought it was a soft re-set. Lost the Guitar Hero game thing and also a game I'd downlaoded from Ovi.
Any idea to how to get back the Guitar Heroes game? Its not in the Apps folder anymore.
To start with : I don't own a N97 , But I wonder : Hard Resetting the device means all your 32GB's data are deleted ? This I would consider a bug ! There is no use in having 32GB's at all ! Better put in a huge microSD memory card ! Like 32 or even more .
Anyway , also in other devices : file all your data , apps , etc onto MemoryCard as first choice , see also : http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/84082/&
The easiest way to get your Games back ? Sorry I wouldn't know for the moment . But what about asking a friend just Bluethoothing it over ?

That's a nice guide, thanks for posting it, jApi. Bookmarked.

Yep, it does look I did a hard reset by mistake!
But no, the 32 GB internal wasn't deleted - all my music and pics where still there. I think this the reason why just one of my apps semi survived the reset - it was installed on the 32GB mass, but because the shortcut must have been on phone memory which got deleted it looked like the app had gone, when in fact it was still lurking but with no way of getting it booted up.
Thanks for the link to the reset options, I'll make a not of that so next time I do the right reset!
Checked in other menus for the games but they have defo gone. I wonder why some apps got deleted and some didn't? Are some like Facebook on the ROM?
The (deleted?) Apps are not on ROM . ROM resists all hard resets , except of course in a new firmware-update , which is a new ROM . So they are added to the other part of the device Memory , which can be edited ( delete , adding ) . Anyway it is the right thing , that not all data are deleted from the 32GB of space . Now the point is where the missing Apps are stored normally . For this you have to know the Set-Up of the Phone Memory . In S60 v 3 : C: ,D: , E: , Z: .
C = device , D = temporary (operations) , E = Card , Z = ROM .
Hard reset deletes practically C and D , and all installations .
You can view many more files , when you use a third party Filemanager , like Y-Browser or X-Plore ( also for S60 v 5 ) :

http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=xplore
BTW : did you check : Menu > Install > App. Manager . When there is an App with just Numbers (No Name) , this can be reinstalled manually !
When the App is written in JAVA : Nokia MidletRestorer does some Magic !
