problem with gmail and profimail

Hi All

i know this is not strictly to do with the 5800 but its the phone im using and im getting this problem, i was hoping someone might know the answer, this is a very strange thing thats happening and its confusing me so i will give you the full story, i have been using gmail and outlook 2007 for ages without any problem, i access gmail via pop and everything works fine, the other day i got myself a symbian phone and the e-mail client is configured to use imap, this again works fine and i can send and receive e-mails without a problem.

The problem arises when i access the e-mail on the phone and even though i delete it from the phone, when i get home and start up outlook the message downloads again!, To test it out i decided to send myself an e-mail via hotmail, i received the e-mail on the phone and deleted it, i then logged into gmail via the web and checked my inbox, it was empty as i had hoped, i then started up outlook and low and behold the message came into my inbox!!, how can this be if my inbox via the web interface was empty. I did have a go at using imap with outlook but i don't like the fact that the imap folders always collapse when you exit outlook and when you start it up you always have to expand them.

Please can anyone help me out with this as its driving me nuts!!!

Thanks in advance

Pete 😉

p.s I have posted this on the gmail forum and profimail forum but had no reply as yet.

Unfortunately all IMAP email servers seem to keep a different list of your read/unread/deleted emails from a POP mail server for the same ISP.
I have always experienced the same issue as you, with every ISP email account I have used, and going back 5 years or more over various handset models.

I would advise, if at all possible, configuring both MS Outlook and your phone email client ot use the same protocol - i.e. POP on both or IMAP on both - not a mixture.
Although I know Outlook happily supports IMAP protocol, I can't remember if Gmail supports POP? Therefore you could initially change outlook to use IMAP.

Thanks for the reply but i have managed to sort it now. Instead of selecting delete with profimail. I move the e mail to the bin folder within gmail and this solves the problem
