Move to 5800 from N95 8GB?

8 replies · 3,040 views · Started 30 June 2009

Hi guys.

had my n95 8gb since feb last year and want a new toy.

mainly use my phone for

*web browsing using opera mini on WIFI and 3G
*Sat Nav, right now using Garmin but might move to Nokia maps 3
*Some gaming like Bejeweled, tetris, solitair etc
*and of course texts and calls

what you guys think, would this be a good move?

i moved from my n95 to n95 8GB to e71 and now i have the 5800. honestly the 5800 is my favorite phone of them all. its camera is not the greatest, but all else is better. the screen resolution is the biggest reason why i love this phone. web browsing simply rocks. i like the OS updates with destinations, etc. and the 5800 is so cheap its unbelievable!! its almost a no brainer!!

I also use Garmin XT (the latest version is optimised for touch-screen Nokias). Ditto for Google Maps.
The latest version of Opera Mini also works fine too with the touch screen.

All the latest Nokia's have no GPU so some 3D games wont work.
The 3.2MP camera is not as good as the 5MP N95, especially in poor lighting.

Apart from the camera and 3D games limitations, the 5800XM is THE BEST handset nokia has ever released.
I think the new N97 (at almost twice the price) is the only close competition from Nokia at present.

thanks for replies guys. im getting this baby, i dont use the camera on my n95 anyways, i must have taken only 10 photos with it in more than one year.

whats the best place to get one? i found this on ebay

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BRAND-NEW-UNLOCKED-NOKIA-5800-XPRESSMUSIC-8GB-BLUE-UK_W0QQitemZ200349578327QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_MobilePhones_MobilePhones?hash=item2ea5c3f457&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12%7C66%3A2%7C39%3A1%7C72%3A1690%7C240%3A1308%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A50

and also it says one year warranty? i thought nokia waranty was 2 years, no?

The Nokia Website says 2 years warranty on the 5800XM in Europe.

Check the eBay seller's feedback - preferably buy from someone with 50+ positive buyers.
Also ask the seller to confirm the handset firmware has not been de-branded, as Nokia engineers can tell and would not honour the warranty.
I was lucky and got a brand new one on eBay for 150 about 8 weeks ago. Sometimes a fair priced Buy-Now item is lower cost than an auction final price. Good luck!

bought my 5800 on 02 with 10 credit for just 177. I think this discount code might help you guys. just type it on the check out page for dial a phone pay as you go. and the handset will get 10% knocked off. It was originally for 195 but with the discount got it down to 177 plus free delivery. cant go wrong! plus this way you get a warranty for 2 years with a proper reciept unlike ebay

Thanks for reply. Was it unlocked or locked and o2 branded (i mean o2 firmware)

ive heard some O2 phones come unlocked, i actually had one that was unlocked. planing to use it on 3
