The Nokia N96 also gets a big bump - to v30.033 firmware

Not as sexy as the N97's update, no doubt, but the Nokia N96 has always underperformed and I'm hoping that v30.033 firmware, also released today, will help the beleaguered flagship-of-2008 come up to par. v30 is a 6MB over-the-air update and installed smoothly on my N96. I'll have screens and comments here shortly.

humm souds good!!! a lot of upgardes last dayssss...............Still nothing for the 580000000000000000000000000000000...........pffff cant wait!!!!!!!!!

At the moment I only see the new Live TV (DVB-H)-client as new in 33.033.

But this is a very big "new".

Graphic Electronical Programm Guide and faster zapping.

Updating OTA now. I've always updated via NSU on my PC, never done it OTA before, so here's hoping it works! 😮 😊

I had to read the headline about 5 times. After waiting so long for the last firmware update, I wasn't expecting another one for at least six months.

Thanks Nokia! :icon14:

I've upgraded OTA, and it's OK. Looks like Live TV! is moved from the Media folder. I've not seen any other improvements, except a slight performance improvement so far...

I had this phone & cannot believe people are still trying to defend it. As far as I am concerned from a hardware prospective it is a fundamentally flawed device that no amount of firmware updates are going to fix.

This makes the fact that Vodafone UK still haven't released anything beyond v11.018 of their N96 firmware versions even more annoying...

I was saying this quite fiercely until v20 which finally seemed to result in a relatively stable, ok-responsive handset. Nothing spectacular, but fine.

Just applied v30. Hope I don't regret that.

Earlier fws were as unstable as anything.

Opera Mini wouldn't load after updating, wouldn't even get as far as the splash screen. I had to uninstall and then reinstall. Anybody else had this?

Other than the "Live TV" app and renaming the "Breathing Light" to "Status Light" in Stand-By settings, it's difficult to notice any difference, really.

I like my N96 a lot, but it still takes 6-7 seconds to view a new text message from the notification on the home screen. By comparison, my work-provided E71 takes 1-2 seconds. It still also takes far too long to connect to wireless networks. My E71 is much quicker at this too, even when connecting to exactly the same network.

I'm inclined to agree with Super Chimp's comment, but I have no faith that the N97 and it's cost-cutting CPU would be any better.

Steve.

This typically happens with java apps if you restore them onto the phone from a phone backup that you took.

But still only 2 upcoming calendar items on home screen. !!! Shame on Nokia!
This was so nice in my original firmware (11.x), the whole standby screen filled with items.

Can't beleive they took this off..

I was unable to install the apps after I installed the latest version 30.033 on my n96. The installation progress bar didn't appear on screen, instead the screen returned to the sis file. It never happened before with previous f/w version. And I could not receive files sent via bluetooth, it showing that "unable to connect" on the other phone. There even may be more problems.

I think it is because of the firmware. Please somebody tell me what to do.

Thanks.

ive updated .....un hackable now..hellox cant install root certificates..bla bla bla..........have to sign each app now wid ma certificate 😞

Well... I couldn't agree more on that mate! I am so in your consent. Unlike as you did, I still own that phone. And it is maybe the worst deal of my pro Nokia devices life. In brief I think the n96's hardware architecture which was badly designed from it's cradle, would never allow stability, and proper performance no matter firmware update of any kind. In spite of its dual processor, the phone it's way to slow on commands and hardly supports multitasking situations as many of its brothers like n958GB. Another big minus is its cost. Too expensive for what it is "not capable". I wonder how many of Nokia employees own that phone? I would take back gladly any of the above if Nokia will ever rebirth this phone with a miraculous overnight firmware, but that will never happen. For anybody who might read this, don't misunderstand me: I am a fan of Nokia, as far as I'm concerned even if I might be seen as not open-minded when buying a phone, I always think Nokia when ready to achieve one. I'm just only a bit disappointed in this highly announced phone from Nokia....wasted my money.

do not update!! is unhackable hello ox cant install root certs and first metod of hacking with drakarius is not working also the rompatcher not installed required application not granted do not update

I updated my Nokia N96 firmware to Firmware Version v30.033 a few days ago, and there after my phone just goes of at random and reboots itself. How can I go about getting it fixed.Though I also noticed some of the changes expressed by several other people here but the fact that it does reboots itself is not making me enjoy the update. I hope to get responses about what I can do to get that over or around that. Thanks a bunch

after i've upgraded my nokia n96 rm-472 from version 11.xx to 30.033, the phone has changed alot, the display now is absolutly amazing, it really has changed alot and i really love it now, no regrets. i also compared the display of my n96 at version 30.0033 and my brother's n85 at version 20.xx , both at full brightness, and i must say the n96 definitely looks clearer and better the n85's screen was just a little brighter. i was really surprised with the results. nokia n96 is a great phone.

Sorry to resurrect this old thread, I've just upgraded (UK o2 phone), can someone tell me where to turn off the annoying 'swoosh' when the phone is in the General profile?
After breaking my Share Online (which I think was at v4), I've ended up downgrading back to a v3 one, I can't see much difference...

Not overly impressed so far...

not true
i have v30.033.098.1 firmware installed yesterday.
also installed hello ox and rompatcher and both working fine.

I've bought my N96 in UK, changed product code and installed 30.033. Everything is working fine except of multimedia menu (the little silver button). Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
