Are maps downloaded as needed and then stored?

As per the title really?

Becuase I didn't have inclusive data on the my N95 I loaded maps beforehand using the loader.

But on the N97, the maps seem to be there already, although I have a feeling they have been loaded over the air and then stored - as a test I navigated to France and the maps took a while to appear and some heftly data seemed to be transfering. I guess this happened the first time I opened maps for my area but now they are loaded from memory.

Thanks 😊

You can use the loader for the N97 too... Not sure if they were preloaded and the maps uploader doesn't tell you much...

D

Which maps?, Nokia or google?.

Afaik nokia maps are preloaded on the handset for your area and you SHOULD get a download prompt if trying to view an area you don't have. Alternatively just download the map packs with the map loader on your pc and save them to memory card/mass storage for if and when the need arises.

As for google maps I'm not sure.

Nokia maps 😊

Thanks - that ties in. UK already on the phone, France downloaded as I needed it

Map loader is indeed a bit rubbish - does not tell you what maps you have loaded. The only way I ever found to make sure I wasn't wasting memory was to click remove all, and then load the map I wanted.

Thanks :icon14:
