Java Games on the 7650

18 replies · 3,721 views · Started 04 March 2003

I have tried to download some of the free java games directly to my phone via WAP and some very strange things are happening.

I have so far downloaded Mobile Bowling, MotoGP and some others, all from the orange wap site direct to my phone. They all install fine and i can play them when they have just been installed.

However they put themselves into Tools -> Apps (which although not ideal, isnt a big deal) and seem to disappear at random intervals. They must still be there as if i revisit the site it says already installed, but they are not reliably in that folder and tend to come and go,

This is absolutely useless to me, and i was wondering if this is a common problem that can be fixed or whether the phone is buggered. I cannot see where the files etc still are as i have not yet got a bluetooth connection from PC to Phone to install FExplorer or something,

That is the place where all java apps/games go.

Not normal. At all. Get the phone fixed 😃

cheers JyriK, this is what i thought would be the case. I have as yet not had all 4 installed games on the menu at the same time, and most of the time there are none on there.

Also when i view the apps, occasionally some of them have their own logo icon, but this too is random,

less than 1 week old and i think this needs to go back to the shop 😞

ok this is where i have to admit my inability to use my phone 😮ops: and confess that i dont know how to reset it.

im still trying to get to grips with everything really, and have not found the manual provided in the orange package very useful at all!

sorry to be so dim

Check the 7650 FAQ here 😃

a Hard Reset is completed by typing *#7370# > OK and then you have to put in your security number, which is usually 12345 > OK ( Unless you have changed it )

This will restore your phone to the original condition

And be sure to have full battery & charger plugged in.
As running out of power breaks the phone completely.

JyriK and Space thanks for your quick replies.

Hopefully my bluetooth usb thing will be running soon, in which case i think it should be possible to back up the phone on my PC and then I will try a reset jobby,

if it still doesn't work, or all goes tits up, then i will take it back as it is only 1 week old and i know that someone has fiddled with it before i got it (there were photos of inside the shop on it when i got it!).

In that case I would suggest that you take it back to the shop anyway as when you purchase a new phone that is exactly what is should be.

I know for a fact that on Orange UK if you have a faulty device under warranty that Orange replace it with a new model, whereas if it is insured you will likely get a reconditioned phone.

A new contract should equal a new phone, the shop should have seperate demonstration models use in store.

You may have a good case to phone Orange and see what they can do, their CS service is usually very good with faulty devices.

Good luck.

Bob 😃

You're right Bob, the shop should just swap the phone (and update IMEI information on their database) - I've done it.

Paul

i will possibly go through CS tommorow, as i know for a fact that the shop i got it from has no more 7650s on Orange and apparently orange only have enough to cover faulty ones etc and are not distributing them to stores.

another consequence of this has been that my battery is crap, and is lucky to last more 1 day, which is possibly due to it being used for ages (the photo, which i foolishly deleted, was dated 21st Jan 03) as a demo.

Luckily im fa,iliar with orange suport now after giving them no less than 5 phone calls to try and get GPRS enabled.

cheers for all your help guys, its really been appreciated. I have taken up the issue with orange cust support and they were very very very unhelpful. They told me that the fact that the phone was not listing apps was a software problem and as such was not their responsibility, and that Orange cant do anything about it. When I told them that i have a faulty Orange branded phone, on a new Orange contract brought from an authorised Orange retailer there was a long silence and they put me through to a supervisor, who said its 'common to all 7650s and you'll have to live with it. A firmware upgrade may help, but we can't do that, contact Nokia for help'. This call took an hour and ended in them sending a replacement battery (why on earth i dont know).

As my manual gave no info on how to contact Nokia, I had to get this out of Orange and go through all my issues again with the Club Nokia staff, who went through a diagnostic thing and said that the handset is faulty, and that it is up to Orange to replace it and that i should push for a new handset. Luckily my retailer was much more helpful, and said i could have had one replaced there and then had there not have been none left in the company.

I think that what they did next was even better, as he contacted their head office and got the number of the Orange Regional Manager for the South West and phoned him to say he had a customer appalled with the 'tits' at customer services. It has ended in me being able to get a new phone sent to my door by 10:00am tommorow. For anyone interested the retailer is West Talk, and i highly reccomend them!

But I should also thank everyone here, as had I not been so confident that this was not a common problem, I would have possibly have had to settle with oranges excuse and live with a cack phone.

Good to hear that you get a new phone 😃

 Good one!

cheers guys, just got the bluetooth thingy to get sorted now 😃

Now that hassle has gone I will be using search to try and find some new drivers for a Novatech Adaptor and info on setting it all up with PC Suite, which should be a challenge!
