Changing Default Browser....

5 replies · 2,584 views · Started 04 March 2003

I know this has been asked before, but no possible solutions has been proposed.. Can one possibly go through the file manager and transfer a 3rd party browser like Opera into the folder where the current browser exists? It seems crude, but then I'm not sure where the Internet Button link resides in the phone. Why can we simply redirect the shortcut for the Internet button? Better yet if one were to delete the current browser would the I button then ask the user to locate the file? In turn allow one to redirect it to a different folder.... Any opinions on this method?

Not sure if deleting the pre-loaded browser is possible
as I beleive it is on the ROM.

Best thing to do is install Opera from the SE website
and then through the Applications programme
under View / Preferences change the shortcut
of the original Internet application to Opera.

The O Opera icon should then appear at the top
of the screen

Does that help or have I taught you to suck eggs?

Problem is, when clicking on a URL/Link sent via SMS or Email, it launches the default browser, and not Opera.

Any way around this?

Any follow-ups on the default browser issue? It seems that life might be easier if the makers of Opera could simply code the "make default browser" into their program script. That's how most desktop UI browsers work anyway.
