Scratched Screen

Anyone scratched their screen yet?

I have. :frown:

Don't use your top shirt pocket and then bend over.

Fortunately it's not totally wasted just two pits in the screen surface.

Anyone got prices for replacement? I remember the N95 cost 40 for a replacement screen which I thought was a bargain.

OH NO!!!!

You've gone to hell and back to get your N97 on launch and now your screen is SCRATCHED!

Someone really doesn't want you to own this phone...

I have not (knock on Formica) yet scratched my N97 screen.

I am very careful since my first Nokia N800 Internet Tablet slipped out of its cheap Nokia suede sleeve while in my pocket and rubbed against some car keys scratching it deeply.

That N800 now has a Fellowes screen protector which smooths over the deep rut made by the keys.

My second N800 doesn't have a screen protector, but I carry it in a Nintendo DS rugged fabric case so I don't worry about it slipping out.

I thought I saw an evaluation video of the N97 on the net in the days prior to its release where the screen durability compared to the iPhone was tested by taking a key and attempting to scratch the screen. The N97 in that video survived with only minor scuffing. Maybe it was faked?

You mean this video?

scratched mine too... little cluster of tiny scratches from pocket crap...

I'm gently removing them with displex even though it says don't use it on touchscreens - i'm assuming they meant on capacitive rather than resistive... seems ok so far and has reduced the scratches slightly...

scary place this cutting edge 😉

Sorry to hear the screen is marked, that's a real downer:con? I cracked the screen on the N95 last year, rendered it totally unusable. Sent it off for repair, I think it was round 30quid?

With the N97 I've still kept the screen film on, that came with the phone, although that has some slight scratches , I'm hoping that its only the film that is marked, not the screen itself.

When I get back to Blighty, will search out a decent 'permanent' screen protector.

Still in two minds re a case. Anyone seen anything decent that isn't too bulky?

Mine is scratched aswel.
I had put it safe, in a seperate pocket, in the girlfriends bag while on holiday. Then later on, she decided to take her ring off, and so she went and put it in the same pocket as my phone.
Next time i took my phone out i noticed quite a big scuff mark on it.
Been a week since now. It's got better, it's not as noticable now.
I still don't like it though. I was thinking of going to a nokia shop seeing if they could replace the front without sending it off to nokia for weeks and weeks to be fixed.

I know this, but she obviously didn't think about it and just put it in with my phone.
She claims that "it can't of been my ring that scratched it" but it clearly was, as there was nothing else near my phone.

So... Has anyone else tried asking in a nokia shop?

I've even looked on mobilefun for buying the front, but they don't seem to have any N97 spare parts on yet.

Crikey, a diamond ring that she takes off when she pleases? As and when I get round to buying my missus a diamond ring, I'd insist she wore it ALL the time...

Took her shopping last week for a ring, and I need to carry on saving up...😮

I think within the first day of me having my first edition N95, I dropped a spanner on it and cracked the screen.

Carphone Warehouse changed the screen for 40. Took about an hour.

Great job.

I think this "screen" is different.

I don't think the "screen" that is scratched is the screen, it's a plastic overlay that presses the touch screen.

I thought the top layer was just a layer of normal plastic, then under that is the resistive touch screen layer, then under that is the LCD screen.

So, either the replacement should be alot cheaper because it's not the actual LCD screen, or it maybe abit dearer because the resistive touch screen layer maybe part of the top plastic front.

Does anybody know for sure?

Went into Carphone Warehouse Nokia Service Centre yesterday, they do front screen changes, and it's 65.

My screen isn't 65 worth of scratched so i'll wait until either the price comes down, or it gets any more scratched.
