Hi guys,
I've got a new N97, so I'm looking to give my old N95-1 to a friend. I've had it on the v21 firmware (all hacked and everything), but since I'll be wiping it anyway, should I update it to V31 and then HelloOX it? I see from the changelogs that there's supposedly better battery life, wifi reception, camera quality etc. but is it really any better, or are the benefits so marginal as to be useless?
Thanks
its always the undocumented bugs these major upgrades that makes it worthwhile. The other thing you forgot is the auto landscape ability when you tip it to the side (accelerometer) was added in on V30. V31 however needs newer hack methods which I am sure you can find online yourself.
I have the n95-2, which I have kept on 20.0.016.
You have the original N95, N95-1. I hear that there are so many great improvements (battery life, camera, auto-rotate) that mean it is probably a good idea for you to upgrade it.
Make sure you format the mass memory and do a full reset before and after upgrade, just to be sure. As you're giving it to a friend anyway, I imagine you will want to delete your old personal applications and data.
The original N95 current latest firmware is what the phone should have shipped with. It worries me that Nokia are consistently selling phones with equivelant alpha firmware. Unacceptable.
Personally, I would definitely recommend an upgrade to the latest firmware for the N95. I did this a couple of months ago for my N95, and it was almost like getting a "mark 2" version of the handset (although I was upgrading from a very early firmware - v.12.x - as the official T-Mobile firmware lagged badly behind Nokia's own versions for some time).
It looks as if the N95 software is now about as good as it's ever going to get, so I'd take the plunge 😊
