OK. I know this may seem obvious to most of you but there may be others out there like me.
A niggling point with me is that being old and short sighted I welcomed the Message Reader on the N97. However, since most of my texts are from females, it seemed odd to have the "Martin" voice reading them to me. This is the only voice that came preloaded on my V10, Vodafone, handset. I therefore set about adding the "Ellen" female voice to my reader as follows:-
1. I went to the Nokia Text to Speech here:-
http://europe.nokia.com/get-support-and-software/download-software/text-to-speech#15
and selected the Nokia 5320 Xpress Music phone and was presented with a drop down menu from which I selected "English" and was offered voice pack "Ellen" to download to my PC. This I did.
2. I then connected my N97 and tranferred the file using the PC Suite's File Browser to E:Mass Memory on the phone and then disconnected it.
3. Using File Mgr. I navigated to the file "Nokia_Text-to-speech_S60_32_voice_en_uk_Ellen.sis" and clicked on it to install. I selected Mass Memory for this as I am woefully short on Phone Memory (thanks Nokia) and the application confirmed installed.
4. I then opened the Message Reader in Applications and selected:- Options > Speech settings > Voice and was presented with a choice now of "Martin" or "Ellen".
I know that the above may seem either trivial, blatantly obvious or long winded to all you "Techy" types but I can't be the only "amateur" to read this forum. 🙄
