So any news on anyone working on a virtual QWERTY for the N97 ? hint hint Nokia. Now I use the my nail to the handwriting if i am on a desk or something and the slide out keyboard on the move, but the thing I bought a touch screen phone so I expect a touch keyboard.

Hopefully an future implementations will be smart enough to give the period and the comma its own keys.

I don't quite understand you?

The N97 has 3 on-screen keyboard types, and full screen qwerty is one of them.

The current touch screen keyboard has only TWO (2) types that I am aware of: Handwriting and Numeric Touch Pad (based on phone-style keypad multipress - i.e. press "7" four times to get an "S"😉.

What he's asking for is something to akin to what is on the iPhone for email or on the Nokia N800/N810 Internet Tablets.

Like rdcinhou said it only has 2, but I think that the 5800XM has the virtual QWERTY but I could be wrong.

Although now I might understand the reason behind the non inclusion of the feature which would be the single touch resistive screen, that might be an obstacle for some users.

But again having it wouldn't hurt either

Ah, i stand corrected. I was assuming it had the same keyboard choices as the 5800.
I've only just looked to check and the qwerty's arn't there.

Obviously i've not used it yet, but i'd also like to see the qwerty keyboards added to my N97.

I dont quite understand. Why would you need a Touch Screen QWERTY keyboard when the N97 has a keyboard?? Surely if you got the touchscreen QWERTY then you wouldnt need the flip out one??

if you look at videos from months ago, the n97 DID HAVE the on screen qwerty. but nokia removed it right before the final release. so actually the keyboard is still there, its just hidden. ironically if you boot up the phone brand new, and it askes for your location and time and date, you can briefly get a glimpse of the on screen keyboard popping up. its a bug, but the on screen keyboard is CLEARLY still there in the firmware. just turn it on nokia!!!!

because sometimes it's easier responding quickly via a yes or no or ok or something similar with just a pop up qwerty instead of having to open the phone and use the keyboard.

My hunch is that for those specific times nokia "thought" it would be easier to just use the T9 rather than a soft qwerty which is why the soft qwerty is gone and only the T9 style remains.

However there are times when BOTH are nice.

anyone managed to get this to install? keep getting certificate error on my n97 mini??

there are two things to read and to understand: "sign it" and "hack your phone"

Im guessing then I need to do both of these to install this? I tried to sign it using Open Signed but it wouldnt let me.

I'd rather not hack my phone so may have to wait until an alternative become available 😞

Why on earth Nokia chose to cut out the Virtual qwerty keyboards and omit a stylus silo (but include one in the retail box) on the N97's I've yet to figure out. It's sort of "look you don't need onscreen keybrd we've got cool slide out" and "you don't need stylus this resistive is so touch optimised" . yeah yeah we hear (and it isn't by the way) but the choice would have been nice after all it must've taken extra work to omit it>

agreed, and i dont think a stylus was included with my n97 mini either, although it has hand writing recognition as an option.

Hi Stal

I had a stylus enclosed with my voda N97 (it looks more like those bits of plastic which stiffens your shirt collar or a very flat usb stick so you might have missed it for a piece of packaging!)

Boothy

Boothy, are you talking about the N97 or the N97 Mini, as I have the Mini.

I'll double check the box tonight but don't recall seeing anything.....

Sorry Stal

I was talking about the N97 not mini - anyway you have not missed much either way!
