microUSB charging problems

Q. My new smartphone isn't charging very fast via its microUSB port. Is microUSB limited in this way? Each charge is taking five hours!

That's strange, as I have a generic mini USB cable and that works fine with an HTC S630, G1 and Zune on the car charger.
I'm waiting for a micro USB (male) to mini USB (female) adapter to arrive so that I can try and mini USB cable (via the mini-to-micro adapter) with the Q9H.
