Hi all,
I have tried to search through the forum to answer the question that I have right now... but no luck...
My situation is... I just got the N97 NAM version comes with V 10.2.012... but I am trying to make the N97 read Chinese. So I downloaded RM-505 11.0.021 (Hong Kong N97 White) firmware from Navifirm, and tried to use JAF to flash the firmware from RM-507 V10 (America) to RM-505 V11 (Hong Kong)... It rebooted the phone, and stopped at "Stage 2 starting..............." I turned the phone on and it is still at RM-507 V10.
Can anyone teach me how I can change the firmware from RM-507 V10 to RM-505 V11?
Thank you...
Ken
Not possible without serious hacking of the firmware.
What you may be able to do .. is find an asian country code for RM-507
.. I'll take a look at the list and see ..
hmm - 0583785: RM-507_NAM_PHILIPPINES_850 Black
I don't know what languages it supports but its worth a try.
My N97 has Chinese/Japanese font support using a Singapore code. but its a 505 😊
What Nokia should do is provide language modules for the OS.
Allowing the user to pick and choose what languages their device should support.

Thanks for your reply.
I have tried to change the product code of the phone to Hong Kong by JAF, and then tried to use NSU to update the firmware... but what it found was still the American V11 firmware...
And I totally agree with you that Nokia should let the users download whatever language pack we want...
All Hong Kong codes are for 505 or 506(specific to China who knows what they did to that firmware!)
I haven't been able to find the language support list for the Philippines version.
I suggest you try it .. and see.
Good Luck!
Just in case you want to try the 506 (I don't know the frequencies this uses)

so is that mean there is way I can remove the RM507 firmware and install a RM505 firmware in my phone? 😞
No .. but I'm not sure about 506 (the China specific model)
you're best to stick with firmware written for the frequencies you are using
How about is there a way that I can just make my phone read Chinese characters? I don't worry if I can write Chinese or not... just want to make it able to read Chinese...
Hence one more of the reasons why I hate NAM phones - lack of Asian character support as well as a "non standard" band for the rest of the world (850Mhz UMTS).
you can either sell it and get a 505 and change the firmware
or you can try
http://shop.psiloc.com/en/Application,262329,Psiloc+Crystal+Chinese
But not sure if this is working for the N97 though as its meant for S60V3 - you can get a 10 day trial though to test and see if it works..
the first option is better as you will get the proper hand writing recognition et all and 100% working..
BTW.. I wouldnt be changing the product codes to other models as you can brick your phone very badly this way and since you have changed the product code, Nokia does not warrant it anymore. Hence more the reason to sell it and get a proper 505..

Thank you for your suggestion, I might try out that software... but it cost =.=

hence why theres a 10 day trial period to find out if it works or not. If not, then spend your "costs" towards putting it up for sale on ebay and then paying the difference to obtain a 505.. 😊
Simple..

hey bchliu, thank you so much for your help dude! I just tried the trial version, it WORKS! You are the man! :icon14:
There is an alternative method too - but may or may not work as I havent tried it (nor can I now since I am on the Chinese firmware).
S60 stores the fonts in Z:\Resource\Fonts. Apparently someone wrote that you can get some extra font sets to work in E:\Resource\Fonts as well (since Z: is ROM based and not changable unless you hacked) - but I have no idea on how this can work nor if there are some other settings you need to do for the OS to recognise the new font/language sets.
I'm telling you now mate, you put anything other than RM-507 on a RM-507 phone, you WILL kill it dead, with no saving it.
C'mon dude, you should know this! they have different revision codes for a reason!
Back in the day I remember flashing 5110 firmware onto a 5130 so I could get one feature that wasn't present in the 5130 ( only difference were the operating bands ) worked fine.... however it never found any networks 😊
If you dont care about your phone or have decent insurance then by all means try it but I would suspect a big fail.

Hi, can u please give me the steps of what to do to change my n97 language to Chinese in rm-505. Also, how can we check if the phone is rm-505 or rm-507? I mean like changing the product code and stuff. Sorry, I don't know about this bcoz I'm new to all this, thanks in advance.
Anyone has confirmed that they can use NSS to flash Rom 507 to rom 505?
