Net Blocking

I'm off on my hols next week. Vodafone have kindly suspended their roaming charges but this doesn't include data usage of course.

Does anyone know an easy way of shutting all net access down on the N97? I still want to be able to use it for calls and texts but don't want it sneaking online just to update the weather (as it had bloody well better be sunny anyway) and charging me 4.99 per day for the privilege.

Suppose I could always delete all the access points but don't really want to unless that's the only way. Any ideas?

If you're worried about the homescreen content going online, you can put them into offline mode by pressing Options -> Content to offline mode.

Alternatively you can remove any widgets off the homescreen that would use the internet. I don't think anything else would "sneak" online unless you let them.

Hope this helps.

I changed the connection settings for the web browser to "Ask when necessary". I did this not because I was worried about 3G data charges but because I didn't want to have to mess with re-configuring settings when I move from home to being away from home.

A quick trip up the corner shop is enough to make the phone beep as I go out of range of the Wifi and although I still have Accuweather on the front page it now asks me nicely what I want it to connect to the first time I attempt an update the next time I come back.

So I would go for this option preferably.

Oh yes, and as may be obvious by my posting, it seems that lots of applications on the phone use the connection settings you've configured for the web browser - in much the same way that applications on a Windows box frequently default to using IE proxy settings.
