According to Sony Ericcson 2003 Product Launch in New York this morning, Mar 4th, the following changes will be included in the next shipping version of S.E P800 expectedly in second quarter of 2003. No mantion whether or not software upgrades or newer firmwares will include the changes !!!

1. Opera browser to be the default browser
2. PC Synch compatible with Win 98
3. New color available (Mineral Grey) for the more conservative crowd who need a "serious looking" phone
4. Better support for UIQ developments...
5. And more gadgets:
a) MPF-10 : Flash for the built-in camera (God Bless S.E 😊 . The attachable flash has its own dedicated shutter release button. When the flash is attached, you can choose whether or not to use the flash by which shutter release button you press.
b) HBM-30 : the new MP3 player. It's basically a small MP3 player with a Memory Stick Duo slot. But it also features a microphone and Bluetooth, to double as an interface for your phone. You can leave you phone in your pocket, and when you receive a call, the music pauses, the caller-ID is shown on the display, and you can answer the call and listen through your regular headphones. So where other MP3 phone accessories center around the phone, this one seems to revolve more around the MP3 player.

does the MPF-10 work for the P800?

Isn't it just for their new line of phones? Like the T61X?

Does anyone know when (or if) when the UK shipment of these
are coming in?....by the time they do it may be (if orange use there brains) cheaper to upgrade than buy a new phone 😉

Okay, let's get real here. First off, what's the point of a flash? even with flash the pictures are not going to be great, and if you're gonna carry a flash you might as well carry a small camera and you'll get better pictures.

Same for the MP3. The whole point was not to have to take extra gadgets along. The p800 IS an MP3 player. so bassically why spend the bucks on a second Mp3. Save the money and buy an extra Memory card instead.

An all inclusive gadget phone is only cool if you don't have to carry along other gadget's with it.

I dont know, the add-on flash sounds useful to me. I guess that rather than being a must have its there to keep up with the nokia camera attachment which also features a flash, as do a few of the new 3G phones. I mean its bound to swing the decision for quite a few consumers, isnt it?

I'd agree on the MP3 player bit.
I dissagree entirely on the flash bit. In fact I'd call the flash a natural extension of the P800.
You, I or no one else would be very well served by a flash included in the standard P800 so people that actually use the camera other then outdoors will love the flash complement.

Okay, oyu're right. Flash would be cool. I do wish there was a small flash included with the P800. I mean on the same frame. Although you're right an d having a flash could be usefull I can't be really botheres to carry one with me. It's me though, I hate stuff. I can never find anything in my pockets or bag because I have a distracted character. That's why I LOVE the P800, I used to carry an organizer and spend 2 to 5 minutes to find it each time I needed it. Now it's all there!! I'll admit though sometimes I have to call myself at home to find the phone. What can I say...

My priority would be the possibility to edit documents and better picture quality

And I seriously HOPE that these upgrades come to existing users as a free upgrade rather than having to buy a new set. That would be TOTALLY stupid.

Picture Quality definitely needs to be improved. I dont really understand why P800 pics are still very grainy. The 3650 take awesome pictures. ANd it records video as well and the P800 pics are like the video's that the 3650 takes :-?

P800 is a great phone, it just needs some upgrades thats all. And I hope it will include a video recorder too. Man my old CLIE NR70V han an ap that could record video. I just found it very useful because you can then send it as MMS. We tried it and it worked, she sent me a 10 second video. Imagine Christmas, valentines...etc... It would really liven things up (until 3g comes in of course 😃 )

Looks like 3G will be delayed /a lot/ because of the current recession.

In the UK, 3G from 3 has been launched, and founders will be receiving their handsets within a few weeks. I believe it is a similar story in Italy, and possibly some other EU countries.

Suffice to say it will be a loooooong time before people move on to 3G.
Handset market is still extremely small, most handset makers only have one or possibly two phones for the 3G networks and they are not in stores yet.
Also it's a definite fact that telcos can't spend as much as originally intended to expand their 3G networks so even if there are currently 3G networks they'll be cover small geographic areas and will probably not be usable outside city centres.

3G will take 1-2 years to test the market acceptance and network features. Before that, it will be a very niche product.

Before moving to 3G, P800 is a perfect phone to fill that transition time! 😃

THe closes we can get to 3G is to be able to send and recieve video via MMS. Is there any rumour about the P800 haing a record video update? Pleae say yes 😃

Sorry, no.
It's not likely P800 will record video in quite a while.
Why?
God knows.
So far Nokia and Motorola (SE main competitors) hgave anounced or released phones with videorecording ability.
The fact that the P800 can record video but Ericsson refuse to let go of the API is purely outrageous, a slap in the face to all those who bought the phone and it's this kind of decisions that will lead Sony Ericsson to a certain defeat.

Then again, those are just my two cents... 😉
Is there any GPS add-on available for P800 ?
Yes, connecting using bluetooth:

The only problem is that it ASAIK no software for P800 for it yet. Wayfinder.se though told me that they will release a version for P800 by the summer. And I think it is a little expensive.
