OK Biggzy and davecozens... thanks to you both for making me a 50% happy bunny! 😊

I said in another post here:-

that I REALLY, REALLY wanted Nokia Conversation for my phone as I miss that and the Internet Radio from BetaLabs.

Thanks to your instructions I obtained a self signing certificate in less than 3 hours and managed to sign and install Free-iSMS.v1.03 which goes a long way to shutting me up about Conversation.

Once again guys... thanks very much for your time and trouble. :icon14:

To anyone who's taken the steps above: how're your phones? Has anyone had problems since applying for the certificate/key? I only ask because I fell I'm at a point now where I need a certificate but don't trust giving my IMEI number to any site that I can't read.

I just knew you'd mention that bloody lens again 😃

Thanks, I'm gonna go ahead and apply for a certificate now. There're so many apps I want that are unsigned and it knarks me off I can't use them yet.

Don't tell me your lens has scratched off completely! 😃

I've applied now, should have my certificate by 9:30 tomorrow morning. Here's hoping my phone doesn't suddenly get blocked from every network in the country... :fingerscrossed:

No problems since following the instructions and getting my self signed certificate. 😊

What is certificate signing and why is it only the east (china) can do this? Why can't there we a website in english who provides the service. So once they got your IMEI what do they do with it? Is it an automated programme or is there someone sitting there creating certs? I don't get this 😞

Hmm it seems the website has changed now and I can't download the individual cert and key files. The only thing it lets me download is some sort of signing program for my PC. Attached is a screencap of what I see (with the IMEI blurred out).

How can I get my cert/key now? :frown:

Zxon I have the same problem to, i've been hunting down the answer to me it seems they website has developed a programme where you create your own certs. Now the problem is the chinese! I have managed to translate the main chinese on the programme once you open it and you can find that at the below link:

What to do with the actual programme is besides me!

It's been suggested (by biggzy) to try the English version instead, so I'm trying that now but looking at all the pending/completed certs they show on the site, it's not looking promising.

I think the program is to help you sign the apps with the cert and key you've got... but it doesn't provide them for you at all! I've tried at the english version but they're backlogged and showing no sign of sorting them out.

FINALLY! I have my cert and key! WOOHOO!!! The english site got something like 3000 certs sorted out in 24 hours and mine was one of them!

Now to get that signing app installed on my phone...

ok i have my cert and key and i have a program i wish to sign but could someone please provide step by step how to do this? i am a total novice, i have that freesign thing on my phone as well but cant seem to get it to work. someone help please =D

Hmmm, I now have a cert and key and have run signtools 2.2 and followed (hopefully) the instructions and still my N97 reports the app is not signed when I try to install it.

What could I be doing wrong?

Am I supposed to double click the key to enter it into my registry?

I haven't, but I suspect I should?

Have now worked out that I needed to move the key and certificate and the app I wanted to sign to the same folder as Signtools 2.2 and it creates a signed copy of the app ready to install to your phone.
