Have there been any successful reports of debranding and then updating to v11 a UK contract N97? I've heard of many brickings and a few suggestions for methods of going about it, but no confirmations that anyone has actually managed it.
I'm on the three UK network - has anyone on three or other UK networks debranded? And if so, what method did you use?
Thanks.
Yes James just done it this afternoon and thought i'd bricked my phone! I have a 3 branded N97 product code 0586308 and used NSS to change the code to 0570817, I then used NSU to update the firmware. Turned my phone off and on and it was only flashing a white screen then turning off! Panic stations!!!
I then used the info at http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/forum//forum/thread/85355/&page=2 to save the phone cheers Fats for the info, and this sorted the phone out its now running the latest firmware and from using the phone for an hour or two now its a good firmware upgrade.
Hope this helps, Good luck 😉
Thanks Wacko. So was the blank screen part 'normal' and expected? Can it always be recovered?
I can confirm that I have debranded and updated my contract Three N97. It did brick when I used NSU to update it, but I fixed it and posted how in the link wacko posted. I'm now happily using the N97. Be aware that you will lose the Three skype and messenger apps. I don't have use for either so it doesn't bother me.
Managed to do mine too from voda. Changed product code to EURO then updated through NSU, which unfortunately crashed, damn NSU. Recovered the phone fine using JAF and now at V11. Still a fair few bugs though....
Okay so I finally got JAF to run. Now I can't get it to recognise the phone to read/write the product code. Any tips? I've read about timing it right, but how should it be timed?
I managed a perfect flash from VodaUK branded to Euro1 V11, using JAF and in 'dead usb' mode and swapping the prod code with the upgrade using JAFS option to do so.
Works perfectly. Have even got back silent camera option and gsm only mode, nice 😊
I've just managed to update with the same method: change product code, use JAF dead phone method, and only connect the cable when it says "switch on now". I don't know if I dare to check it with NSU though!
