N97 contract deals

I got my N97 on the three network, 25 texter 12-month package. Pay 200 up front, then 25 p/m line rental on a 12-month contract. Over the course of 12 months this was the cheapest possible contract I could get (500 for the year), and it has the bonus of being 6 months shorter than the 18-month options by Voda or Orange.

I deliberately didn't go with Voda because you have to port your number when you sign up.

also, I'd be reluctant to go with anybody other than tmobile or o2 because the others data packages look scarily low (500mb a month? eek!) and they bill you for going over...

Seriously how much do you use?

I would reset your data usage! Fair point on the charging over but 500 is almost a tidy 16MB a day. Nothing in the web world of course but if your only using it for web/email as advertised then that should be plenty for a mobile.

The T-Mobile cap is only twice that.

True. But they don't bill you if you go over it. T & C say something along the lines of "If you frequently exceed 1gb"...

But with video/image uploads & downloads it wouldn't take very long to exceed 500mb.

Average photo size, ~500kb. 1000 photo's is only just over 30 a day.

And as for web sites: -
AAS homepage comes in at just over 158kb.
theregister.co.uk: 500kb.
bbc news. 200k.

I don't think 500mb is enough. I use my phone a lot. And I don't want an internet bill. That'd be like WAP all over again!

Apparently T-Mobile advertise 1gb but its actually 3gb? Also, they don't charge for going over unless you are taking the p*ss

When I joined forever ago they said 3gb. These days they advertise 1gb. I dunno. It's the "no charge for exceeding" bit that I care about...

T-mobile don't generally care about you connecting Web n Walk Handset to the internet either (although im not sure if and how they could reliably detect this) its 3GB on Plus is it not?

If I recall they reserve the right to bitch slap your connection down to lol speeds for going over although I don't know anyone who has had this happen despite using BT on their phone. i cant remember the last time I got anywhere close to 100MB in a month let alone 50 😉 I do use web on my phone quite a bit but I suppose it *is* generally mobile sites.

you're forgetting GPS maps, i just downloaded 9mb looking at one particular city. I'm with O2 and they say 3GB. Dont know about the cheapest contract, i've still got a year to upgrade, i bought my phone for 370 cash and am selling my N96 for 200, that's the cheapest option i could find!

Where did you get the phone for 370 from? 😮

They regularly go for about 400 on eBay, but if you sell a phone for 400 on eBay, the fee's come to about 50 (no kidding, an auction takes 10% up to 50, plus paypal fees and like a fiver to insert) So i found one close by and offered him cash, very friendly guy, he'd tried it and didnt like it, was a vodafone upgrade.

Everyones a winner, except for the corporate greed of eBay.

You think 500Mb is scarily low? Try 200Mb!

I'm on PAYG with o2 and a web bolt-on, and they would charge me if I go over the monthly limit. Thankfully that hasn't happened yet, and they send me texts, firstly to let me know I'm coming up to my limit, and secondly when I've gone over and they're gonna start charging. So it's not as if my credit is suddenly gonna plummet without warning (luckily!).

I've been looking around for a 1-month contract sim that can better my PAYG tariff in every way, but I simply can't find one.
