I tried installing NSS along with the following products - none of them appeared to work, all gave the same identical "Error!" message as with my previous attempts... see the description of the error here:

* PC Suite that came with my N95 (drivers are too old to recognize the N96)
* Latest PC Suite (7.1) FAIL
* Ovi Desktop 2.0 FAIL
I've also tried this on multiple PCs, none of which seem to make any difference.
Can somebody suggest to me a combination of software which will definitely allow me to de-brand my N96. At the very least please tell me the desktop software version number which will work with NSS. Please let me know which NSS you are using.

Why use NSS at all?
I would read up (thepiratebay for example?) and after reading up, decide which way you wish to get a copy of phoenix.
With phoenix I have changed my product code, put the firmware I desire on my phone.
Advantages:
*Haven't used Nokia Software Updater (NSU), so Nokia do not know I changed the product code
*Learning to use phoenix is important; if the phone dies one day, you can still use the 'dead flash phone' function to change the product code, at least, back to the original.
*Nokia UK Warranty still covers the device! Nokia check NSU logs to see if you changed product code or firmware. It's unlikely your device is going to just explode, so you'll always be able to get your warranty cover just about.
Disadvantages:
Takes a few hours to get familiar and learn what is required. Need to download firmware packages.
Do what I said instead, N96 firmware is out there.
