I have just brought a MSI BT USB dongle for my laptop and can make a serial connection with a mates 6310 here in the office.
When I try and connect to the P800 it saying it wants to use COM0
then you click ok and the connection fails...
Saying that the phone has closed the connection.
Can anyone point me in the right direction here please
REgards
P.S what a great phone the P800 is
Thats what it should do, the P800 should then "call back" the PC. Wait a few seconds and you should see the Phone Connections Link (mRouter) arrows become connected.
Make sure that in the Phone Connections Link (mRouter) properties you've got all of the possible COM ports ticked. Also, I think you have to have connected the phone via USB at least once before it is able to connect.
Andy
When you say the phone needs to connected to the USB when should I do that? Do I need to do this everytime ?
I have looked in the system tray and found the phone connection link
and ticked everybox, but it still fails.
What settings should the P800 have. I have BT set to ON or AUTO or DISCOVER.
I have uninstalled the MSI software and reinstalled from the software on there website. When you first create a BT connection its asks for the key passcode. I have entered 12345 and 12345 on the p800 then accept the connection. It then fails saying the remote device ( p800 ) closed the connection.
Should I be looking at some different software like talked about in the 7650 forums.
I cant see it being the MSI dongle or software because the nokia 6310i connects no problems.
Thanks again
I still get the error message but I can see the Phone using the PCsuite
so Im halfway there I suppose.
Can you backup/restore the phone with BT? and how do you
get the webviewer java app running via the BT connection
I have started the app but it doesnt work at the mo
Thanks
Hi,
First off, if you dont understand my explanation, have a search through the forum, because I'm sure that this has been discussed before!
You need to connect via usb once only. If you right click on the mRouter, and choose change phone, your phone must be displayed in the "known phones" section. I had to connect via USB to make my phone appear.
I leave my phone set onto the "discover" mode. I haven't experimented with the other modes, though I would turn it to "off" to help conserve battery when you dont want to use BT.
It's important to "pair" the phone and PC. I'm not sure which software comes with the MSI dongle, but if its the widcomm software (you get the "my bluetooth places" ) go into there, find your P800, right click on it and "pair" the devices It'll ask for the passcodes, this should allow them to connect without asking for the passcodes anymore!
To connect the phone, double click on the p800 Serial port, it'll connect, and then say that the device closed the connection. wait for a couple of seconds and you should see the mRouter connect.
Good Luck
Andy

Sorry, we must have submitted our last messages around the same time, so I missed this one....
If you've got PC Suite working, you are just about there!
I dont think you can do a backup/restore through bluetooth, I tried that yesterday, and it said the phone was disconnected. It worked fine through USB though.
I havent tried webviewer. I'm more than happy with Opera though. Install Opera. connect the phone via USB or Bluetooth to your computer, and away you go. Opera will use that connection by default - it will not try to establish a GPRS/dial-up connection. Check on the IP address that your phone has by going to http://www.whatismyip.com it should be the same as your PC if you have connected through BT / USB.
Cheers
Andy
will it work though a proxy server?
Possibly, possibly not. I think it will work if you have something like Microsofts Windows Proxy Client installed on your local PC, pointing to your proxy server. Probably not though if you have to enter your proxy server details into your PC's browser.
I'm sure someone will correct me, if I'm wrong.
Funny, I have the same problem. Im using the Billionton USB dongle. Il try connecting the USB first. Funny thing also is that on my laptop,After installing hte dongle, I cant pair them because they cant seem to see each other unlike on my PC. When I click add device it cant find my laptop, even if I click refresh a lot of times. Any ideas?
I have the same problem "It then fails saying the remote device ( p800 ) closed the connection." However, it works nevertheless, and according to ephebe this is how it should be.
I connected a Bluespoon, and it all went to pieces. I got it back together again by ticking all of the possible COM ports.
Your right! I dont know how or why but its working now 😊
It seems that bluetooth devices are creating a lot of problems with the P800.
Don't know why, but as many people already said, I had to connect the USB sync station once to get the error messages ("the device closed the connection"😉. Widcomm should have nothing to do with SE's USB device, but still if you haven't connected your P800 with USB at least once and let SE's software detect the P800, it's impossible to connect with bluetooth.
Billionton's drivers seem to have partially solved some problems. I've a MSI device, but there aren't problems with this: Billionton's USB Bluetooth drivers are simply an updated version of the Widcomm stack that comes with MSI'device (1.3.2.7 against MSI still available 1.2.?.?). During the installation when it asks for a location to the device's driver, you simply have to point to the directory where you unzipped Billionton's drivers (http://www.billionton.com.tw/extra/USBBTUSB-B.zip) , and the installation routine finds a driver that suits MSI's device too (in fact, I think it's an universal driver that suits many devices).
I've had the same problem here too. I connect the serial port and then it goes to 0. It then actually works (on com port 10). The problem is that I'd like to be able to walk into the room, and have everything begin synching automatically once my p800 returns to the bluetooth connection. This is not happening because I have to go in manually and assign the com port to this bogus port 0 which doesn't exist. Once, JUST ONCE, it connected to a proper port. It never did it again. Has anyone found a workaround on this one?
Thanks. :-?
Have you connected your P800 on the desktop to the computer atleast once already? If you have yet do this, it worked for me. Then next, you got to your bluetooth configuration windows, search for devices. YOu will find the Bluetooth serial ports as one of the services on your p800. Click on this it will then attemp to communicate with your p800. On you p800 click accept. your pc, TAKE NOTE OF THIS, your PC will reject this connection or atleast mine does all the time, but after doing this the phone connection link then finds the appropriate port.. make sure all the bluetooth possible com ports are ticked. Its a wierd thing but it works. It works for me both on my laptop and pc running winXp using the billionton bluetooth device.
Since I connected once with USB, mine doesn't reject the connection anymore. No more messages...
Before doing this, it showed an error message and didn't connect too!
Mine still rejects but it connects anyway 😊 on the serial connection icon it sez disconnected but on the phone connection link it says it is. If som1 can enlighten me about this please do 😊
Hi All,
Can someone please confirm the need to have the SE synchro software installed on ones computer in order to be able to connect via Bluetooth.
I am having the same trouble connecting via bluetooth as many other people here. Each time the phone tires to connect through com port 0 and then gets disconnected by my P800.
My mum's T68i on the other hand has no trouble establishing a serial connection via BT on com port 9.
I am using Windows 98 and therefore I am unable to intall the SE software (needs ME, 2000 or XP) . Does this mean that I will not be able to connect my phone via bluetooth?
I though the whole point of haveing a bluetooth connection was to be able to transfer files from computer to phone without the need of dedicated software.
Any help on this matter would be great.
Many thanks,
Paddy
I'll have to work on this more. I did connect the unit with the USB cradle first, and I get the error, but then it works using com port 0. My goal is to have it so that when I come within bluetooth range of the computer, the synchronization takes place by itself automatically. Have you gotten it to work this way now that your com port is recognized correctly?
-Scott
I can confirm that: I had to make my computer recognize the P800 connecting it with the USB sync station and completing the "first connection wizard" of SE'software to get rid of the problem with the "device closed the connection" problem. Don't know why bluetooth only works after doing this, but the important thing is that it works!
Mine "works" and does the sync, and in fact it actually connects on bluetooth com port 10. However, in the windows xp bluetooth window it says that the com port is disconnected. And I think that's where the problem lies. Once I move the phone out of bluetooth range, it's no longer connected to com port 10 (and as far as windows is concerned it was never connected at all). It thinks it has connected to com port 0. It's just really messed up.
Does your Outlook give you a message that a program is trying to access e-mail stored in Outlook? I have to figure out a way for Outlook to automatically let the software access the data. It does this whether or not I am connected in real time to my Exchange server.
Thanks!
-Scott
I have the Mitsumi USB dongle and I am having big problems getting the sync software to see my phone. I shall follow some of the suggestions in this thread.
What I really want to do it connect Opera through my home ADSL connection. Do I need any special software to do this? I read on some Palm forums that you need Mocha PPP software before you can do this. Is this true or can I just activate bluetooth on my p800 and start Opera and surf?
Please help!
To connect the phone via bluetooth you must not connect it before with USB. Not once, never.
Important is the OS you use. At XP it is a problem to connect with an account which has not all rights, because the file "hermes.mdb" is used exklusivly from one account. Maybe it depends which account uses the software and bluetooth function first.
The window which tells you an error you can forget. The connection can be done. This is because the software from all bluetooth dongles is normally written so, that only a PC can make the connection, but the phone also tries it, so it shows this error. But the connection comes.
The setting at phone can be ON, AUTO or DISCOVER when a connection with PC should done. Only for using as a modem or with headset or becoming files those settings bring other results.
Let me clear a few things up:
What I really want to do it connect Opera through my home ADSL connection. Do I need any special software to do this?
Nope. Get a working COM port on bluetooth and you should be able to browse from there (only on Opera) without changing anything.

Not true. I use both (depending on whether I can be bothered to carry the cradle in to work) and it works fairly well.

Do a search on google for "clickyes" - this will solve it.
😊
What hasn't been mentioned in this thread, and I think is fairly important, is that you have to have the setting "Allowed to connect without confirmation" ticked in the settings of the paired device.
Only then will the phone pick up the otherside of the com port connection after the PC gives you the error.
Don't worry about whether it's COM0 or whatever, they are obviously virtual ports anyway so it doesn't matter.

Yes you need the Ericsson software and update is definitely coming soon for it to work with win98. And the whole point of having a bluetooth connection is to be able to transfer files and syncronize with any software possible wirelesly with having to have the gadgets face each other at a very short range. That is the prupose, and not the software because without any software what use with there be to sync with the PC?

No you will not need any special software for this except for the SE one that comes with your P800. As long as your P800 can establish a connection(USB,INFRARED or BLUETOOTH) with your PC with ADSL connection connected then Operah will autamically know this and you will be able to browse around anywhere. You will know that is it using your ADSL connection because upon going to the first site it will not ask you to choose what connection to use and most importantly there will be no Globe icon at the bottom symbolizing gprs connection.

Right on Dummian! I also have the initial error thing but nontheless it still connects after that. It will never auto connect everytime your near that bluetooth because there is no configuration for that. Unlike the headset which has a built in configuration that when you pair it, it knows its a headset. For the P800 the PC doesnt know what the P800 is, I guess thats the reason for the error message.
didn't I just cover the opera thing? 😊
If paired and allowed to connect without confirmation then the pc will pick up the bluetooth connection when you walk near it, but unfortunately the SE software needs a bluetooth serial port, not just the link.
Unless this gets resolved in the sync software (which I doubt as it's obviously part of the design) I can't ever see this being possible.

When you say 'establish a connection', do you mean that the 2 devices can see each other or is there something special I need to do to get them 'connected'? I have paired my phone and my computer and can transfer files but Opera does not see this connection. The SE connection manager does not show my phone as being connected, is this a requirement?
Thanks again!
yes.. you need the COM port working to use Opera and for the SE software to detect the phone.
Sorry Andy_P didnt scroll down after reading his message
