N97 Touch screen is all "Spastic"

Excuse the politically incorrect word - but there is nothing else to describe it other than that. whenever the phone wakes from sleep through the slider or the unlock, the touch screen fails and you cannot do anything with it (although the keys still work). After a while, it DOES come back - but the calibration is all wrong and you dont know where you've clicked.

The biggest problem is that Nokia did not supply hardware soft keys to this phone.. meaning that I cannot get into any of the options.

This is pathetic guys.. Ever since the V11 firmware upgrade, I seem to get more and more issues than before - its fustriating the *HELL* out of me!!

spas⋅tic
  /ˈspstɪk/
–adjective
1. pertaining to, of the nature of, or characterized by spasm, esp. tonic spasm.

Sounds like the correct word to me for what is happening.

Did it start straight after the v11 upgrade?

I read that it was possible to emulate the "Vulcan Death grip" (reboot to factory settings) by removing the battery and replacing it again and then whilst holding the Green, Red and Camera keys in you power the phone up and release the keys when the Nokia handshake screen appears.
I believe this method works on the 5800. Might be worth a try.

do you know how you can backup contacts in the Ovi store?

You need to use Ovi contacts on the ovi site - and that required the sync settings to be sent to the phone as an sms. then you need to select it as the sync service.

I did a hard reset of the phone using the *# code and basically it reinstalled itself and half the applications. It was initially fine - but I later encountered more touch screen issues again.

What happened was that I recently also bought a "rubberised plastic case" for this phone and was encased in it. After taking off the top part of the case, I found the touch screen was once again reliable - so I will give up on this case now..

Just warning to others with this same case - be careful as it may affect the touch screen.!
