Bricked N97 needs help!!

10 replies · 14,886 views · Started 18 July 2009

Hi guys,

it seems so many of you managed to get ur N97 unbricked. i am almost there, grateful if u guys can help me out, many thanks

I have followed the instruction as close as i can:

I downloaded
Downloaded JAF 1.98.64.exe
Downloaded JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0

Installed JAF 1.98.64
Extract JAF PKEY Emulator v5.0 to desktop and run it. It opened up JAF FULL PKEY EMULATOR BY OGM DEVELOPMENT - Version 5. I clicked the GO button without changing any of the settings.

I saw J.A.F is trying to start but i got this error: "P-KEY dongle not detected. Please insert activated dongle."

What is going on here? what is a dongle or a P-KEY?

I saw many people mentioned copy ini files to progam files/odeon/jaf, where can i get those ini files?

I have also downloaded navifirm-0.1-bin and downloaded the firmware okay. it got mentioned to put in C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505

But i dont have a phoneix folder inside my Nokia folder there,do i just create it?

It seems that i am definately missing some steps, please can you guys refresh ur genius brains and help the stupid me, thanks a million!!!

Update:

I tried with JAF.1.98.62, it works fine, it opens up JAF but i cant use ini function. as soon as i upgrade to JAF.1.98.64, i get this error "P-KEY dongle not detected. Please insert activated dongle."

If i am to remain on JAF.1.98.62, i cant use the ini function as N97 is not on the list.

I pressed on MCU and PPM and CNT, it cannot find the files created from navifirm-0.1-bin. the files are in the folder of C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505

But it cannot be read. i cant select them.

These are the files i got in that folder:

RM505_507_11.0.021_uda7_001.uda.fpsx
RM505_0575297_11.0.021_001.dcp
RM505_0575297_11.0.021_001.vpl
RM505_0575297_11.0.021_001_signature
rm505ENOA09w14v0.020.fpsx
RM-505_11.0.021_C01_prd.rofs3.fpsx
RM-505_11.0.021_prd.core.C00
RM-505_11.0.021_prd.rofs2.V26

Please help!!!

You need to manually paste in the names of the correct files, rather than selecting them in the window. It will accept the files then.

i tried it, it cant read the file in MCU, others seem to be okay....i think the main reason is cos i am using JAF1.98.62, i cant upgrade to JAF1.98.64. it has an error and wont run 😞

fixed it,i followed these steps from edie209

1) Check your version on your phone by pressing *#0000#
You will see your current softwareversion (currently probably 10.something and that's why you are on this page). The model probably is N97 and the type RM-505.

It is also important you have already installed the OVI-suite.

2) download the new firmware via Navifirm here

Run it (start-up takes a while, it retrieves data from the internet) and select the version that you want to download. Make sure that you know which firmware you want to download.
A list of all the product codes (and the ones which are already updated can be obtained here)

3) Store the files that you have downloaded in following folder:
C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505

where RM-505 is equal to the code that you retrieved in step 1

You now have possession of the part that you need to upload to your phone!

To be able to flash this on your phone you need toinstall and get J(ust) A(nother) F(lasher) working

Download JAF version 1.92.62 here, and in order to get it working download OMG JAF PKEY Emulator v5: here

version 1.92.62 does not know the N97, so 1.92.64 can be downloaded. You don't need the .exe file just the .ini files. So download JAF version 1.92.64 here and only put the .ini files in the directory where you installed version 1.92.62

When this is done, open OMG JAP PKEY Emulator v5. After pressing go without changing any setting you should get JAF running.

You first get an error message that Box drivers are not installed. This is OK as you don't have a box. If you get a query regarding installing new drivers keep the ones you currently have (those you got when installing the OVI suite and they are perfect)

Press BB5, now we need to tell the programm where to get the new flash files.

First select: dead USB (even if your phone is still working)
Manual flash , factory set and normal mode.

If your phone is still working you can press .ini when it's connected. It will automatically know where your You can do this by connecting your phone and press: use ini, or when it's dead press the buttons MCU , PPM,CNT and APE one by one.

You should point them to your directory

MCU Flash file: C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.core.C00
PPM Flash file: C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505\RM-505_11.0.021_prd.rofs2.V01
CNT Flash file: C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505\RM-505_11.0.021_C01_prd.rofs3.fpsx
APE Variant file: C:\Program Files\Nokia\Phoenix\Products\RM-505\RM505_507_11.0.021_uda1_001.u da.fpsx

Also make sure you click the option: Change also product code and uncheck CRT 308.
Now make sure your phone is switched off and battery is in! Now take out the part that goes into your phone untill the program tells you to switch on your phone after you pressed FLASH.

When you press flash you first get an warning message to tell you you shoud never downgrade, when you click that away you should connect your phone afterwards.

Flashing will start and your phone will be on the new software!!

Make sure the 'smartcard' Windows service is running.
Did you make sure not to block the software with your firewall?
Is Windows DEP enabled? If so, disable it.

If you can't get it to work with the PKEY emulator, try "virtual pkey". I used that and it worked fine for me on Vista.

Can you tell me where I can eget the Jaf 1.92.64 ini files?

Every link I have found is dead. :frown:
