Does anyone know why if we used our P800 to the internet or downloading mails or etc through our ISP dialup, its only connected at 9600 instead of the usual 56.6 when dialup from our PC?

Please suggest ...........

Thank You

This happens because GSM data does only support 9.600 in your network. Other networks support 14.400 but it is rarely enabled. You can only connect to speeds of 56k via GPRS which has nothing to do with dialup though.

Yeah, in the Uk no network is testing GPRS over 24-28kps at the moment because it takes so many packet channels at the same time.

If you're on Orange you can use HSCSD to connect at speeds upto 28k8 and the charges are:

"If you are on Your Plan, calls are charged at a fixed rate of 25p. If you are on a Talk Plan standard calls cost 25p and Orange to Orange calls cost 20p where data is transferred over 14.4kp/s.
Costs include VAT and are per minute. "

This means that if you enable HSCSD you can connect at 14k4 for the same price as 9k6 (doesn't sound much but a 50% increase in speed for free can't be bad) or over 14k4 if you're prepared to pay the premium...

It's wierd though, if you dialled up at home over a 28k8 link you'd be complaining about how slow it was, whereas if you're used to mobile data being 9k6 then 28k8 seems VERY fast indeed! 😊
