Try a reboot - turn off/on . Remove battery . Or a reset .
Soft reset : *#7780#
Hard reset : *#7370# , be aware to have a Backup !

DON'T! Don't do anything of that. Just switch it off in Phone settings (search for Breathing light or similar).

I don't have English set in my phone, so I can only tell you this:
Menu - Settings - Phone - (scroll down) the last option - the first option (should be something about 'breath'😉 - set it to OFF

No, all Nokia smartphones starting with the N82 & N95-8GB retain all user data during Firmware Upgrades so a hard reset is never done automatically.
I personally NEVER recommend restoring a backup file after a FW upgrade or FW de-brand. If you did a restore after FW update, then you need to do a hard-reset.

So many experts on here and so much misinformation..
The "breathing" light isn't the same as the message alert. It's a slow fade up and down every 10s or so.
The message alert is a quicker, double flash - not fade.
If you disable the breathing light you will still get message/call alerts.
There is a definite bug (not feature) in 21.0.025 which means the message alerts do not always cancel properly, irrespective of whether breathe is turned on or off.
No point doing a hardware reset, it won't be fixed until a new firmware comes out.
Try opening, closing and exiting the messaging app, sometimes that makes it work properly for a while.
Yes there is a bug where the double flash still blinks even after you check your missed call. To clear this just unlock then relock your phone using the side unlock button. Works every time. No big deal😊
And yes there is lots of mis info here. The standby light blinks every 10 seconds. And the notification blinks twice every few seconds when a missed event occurs. Not sure why wouldn't check the settings for this first!

Hmm, don't companies call bugs in their code 'features'???
Calm down mate, only having a laugh!

My highlighting...
Yes, THAT is a bug, however the breathing light as the TS refers to is a feature that is new to that version of the firmware...
