Google has officially declared its S60 YouTube client compatible with the Nokia 5800 and N97, with the release of v2.2.9 (it was 2.2.6) on m.youtube.com (i.e. you no longer have to intercept the one offered to S60 3rd Edition phones and transfer manually - you can just go to Google's mobile site in Web on your 5th Edition device). There's also a new 'Flag' (as inappropriate) menu function, but still MIA are login/favourites/commenting - surely a version 3.x version will be needed for these?

Im on my N97 right now, but not getting a download prompt from either m.youtube.com or just youtube.com
Wierd, it shows up in m.google.com 'YouTube' on my 5800.... Maybe someone at Google hasn't flicked a switch yet?
me too. Only the web based thing.
Thanks, guys, I've amended the story text. Wonder why the N97 support's being delayed?
No YouTube client? No Internet Radio? No Sports Tracker? You can see why I've gone back to 3rd Edition FP2 devices! 8-) [ducks]
I'm on a 5800 in Canada, but accessing google.com in the US, and I did get offered the YouTube v.2.29 update. The .sisx file says it's version 2.0(9).
I was able to download the new Youtube v2.2.9 from m.google.com. Downloaded in UK via wifi.
m.youtube.com didn't give me any download link on my 5800. But going to m.google.com and selecting the Youtube link there gave me a download link.
Installed it on my 5800 via m.google.com. Really like the touch interface that the search result screen move like a carrousel. It is faster that I expected, and I thin better than the one that is used in the ipod or iphone.
Gotta love how even though it's now officially compatible with S60v5, they're still coding around the default UI widgets. Which gives us things like

Huge controls covering the video, when there's far enough space for play pause volume etc controls on the toolbar on the right.
And if they're not going to use the standard toolbar, at least hide it, so we don't get things like a wide video having black bars on the top and bottom of the video. That on a phone with a 16:9 screen.
That disregarding the smallish options that you need the stylus for.
Also, this one might be subjective, but I can swear the flash lite version of m.youtube.com has better video quality.

Yup the flashlite is way better nowadays, its not subjective at all. Until the video quality improves, with options to login, comments, etc, I dont see the point of this.
Yup, installed onto my i8910 and it's no different to the poor player I get when browsing the site directly. FFS - WHY NO FULLSCREEN????
I friend showed me his Android powered Samsung shortly before I had heard about the local client, and although being on a slightly smaller screen (no much), it was playing HQ Youtube video fullscreen. Apart from one pause to buffer, it was flawless.
😡
On n97 when I select "change connection" I get nothing.... The app seems to be using my default destination. How is it possible to change connection to my home wifi for example? The sma problems seems to happen in the new Google maps...
