E71 and headsets.... 2.5mm headache!

Hiya,

New to Symbian phones, but really loving my E71. I think it is a thing of beauty and probably the greatest phone I have ever owned.

I have one slight niggle mind, the provided headset which really hurts my ears. I got a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and obught a Sennhieser MM 50 headset with a 3.5mm 4 pol jack. But the phone wont recognise it as a headset. Also the adapter is a bit clunky.

I am now thinking of investing in the much more expensive MM50 with a 2.5 jack as standard:-

What I wanted to know is will this work with my E71 as it is a lot of money to spend if the phone wont recognise it.

Any advice greatfully received.

Hello!

A question and maybe a stupid one, but did you actually try your Sennheiser headphones with your phone? I'm asking because I just tried using two pairs of headphones (one for the iPod and the other a pair of noise reducing headphones) with a 3.5mm to 2.5 mm adaptor and I got a message on my E71 saying "use phone headset", but these headphones worked fine anyway. I'm just wondering what you mean when you say that the phone wouldn't recognize the Sennheisers as a headset.

It could be the adaptor . Is it a 4-pole adaptor all the way from 2,5 to 3,5 mm ?

This drove me nuts for the first week of owning my E71x. Here's what I've found and purchased, all at Fry's.

To make a 3.5mm set of headphones (no microphone), then you need to find a 4-pole 2.5mm adapter.

Mine is in GE packaging, Jasco 95553 2.5 mm to 3.5 mm headset adapter. It was $4.99 and in the mp3 player aisle. It's bulky (1.5" long), but works like a charm.. I can plug my shure headphones into it or a 3.5mm line in to the car jack.

Then... I found the Sony EX71 SHS 2.5mm stereo headset. (in the cell phone accessories aisle) This is great because it plugs directly into the phone's jack... but the best part is that it comes in 2 pieces. The first piece is the jack with about 2.5 feet of wire which terminates in a 3.5mm headphone jack that also includes the microphone. The second piece is a regular, but short, set of sony earbuds that can be used with any player... $20
