Hellooo
Is there a way of getting my hotmail e mails to come in like sms messages do .... i.e. automatically and not without me having to connect every time.
Sorry if it's a daft question :con?

According to the nokia messaging faq (http://email.nokia.com/account/faq.action) it now supports hotmail.
Wouldn't you have to set up a scheduled send and receive? I don't think you can have a push hotmail service, but I could be totally wrong.
On the subject of email, I've found that using Gmail with the N97 is excellent. I don't use the Nokia messaging app, just the built in feature but beucase gmail is IMAP, anything I send on the phone will also appear in the sent items on line. :icon14:

i assumed that nokia messaging poll the mail servers at their end and then do the pushing. Effectively rthey're a mail middleman... pulling the mail and pushing it out...
I always wanted googlemail but me name is taken and I don't want
hhhmmmm
i think i'll just connect every couple of hours or so - it seems a lot easier
😊
angie xx

Yeah , same here. I configured the email client on the N97 to work with my Gmail account, and its great. Did have a slight problem when I first set it up, as when I tried to send the email would just sit in the outbox, but a quick trip to Gmail settings pages gives you all the info needed for setting up a Symbian phone. Now sends and receives perfectly.
The *only* ( sigh, alright then, another ... ) gripe is that the new email indicator in top left screen just stays there permanently even after I've read ALL emails.

Really? Thats cool, so it is, in theory, it's a free push email service.
I did wonder what the point of Nokia messaging was considering the built in features seem to do the job.
One point that someone made about Nokia Messaging is the "folly" of giving all of your email addresses and passwords to one website/service.
What if they get hacked?
Update: from the below link from Nokia Beta Labs, it appears that the N97 version has some "issues" which might warrant that you think twice before installing:
http://betalabs.nokia.com/forum/topic/3114
The main one being that it only uses C: memory. All it would take is one of my family sending a multi-megabyte batch of photos or video and my C: drive would be filled.
Thanks for the tip off! :icon14:
yes its a little flakey to be honest, it mostly works just fine but now and then misbehaves.
i find it mostly stops working when i try to switch accounts, instead of selecing the chosen account
it just animates a circle with a ring round it thats presumably my touch point. but doesnt actually change accounts, with fiddling / going out and in again / usign d-pad it works fine.
n-gage has very little touch support and needs the d-pad for most of the interface.

try
instead of your whole name put a "." between them
Ah. But there's an s missing there... Mine's gone...
