Hi, i tried to get information about this question on retailer but they say no you need to pay for data plan to get gps working. I don't need step by direction gps. I dont use my cellphone that much, its more for good quality camera and simple gps i need because i do cycling far away and i dont want to carry 3 unit. Can you use the N95 gps without paying for internet, data plan ?
n95 8GB Gps question
Well i have been using sports tracker, but lately i have turned to sportypal. For these software's if you don't want to pay for the internet you have to turn the AGPS setting off on the phone. But the problem is that if you turn off the AGPS setting, finding a GPS signal can take quite a while. And you will not notice when you have lost the signal unless you have some holder for the phone in front of you on the ram of the bike. Because the AGPS is using the GPRS or any other type of internet connection that you have for finding the closest satellite so the navigation can be good.
Otherwise it might not be so accurate and the initializing can take a while. I have nokia E71.
My final suggestion is, if you go cycling outside the city turn off the AGPS, but if you surrounded with trees and buildings keep the AGPS on.

You can use Garmin Mobile XT using your built in GPS as I'm using and never had a single problem.:icon14:
