are yours as bad as this ?

the primary camera is wonderful, fabulous clarity, and also great with video.

I've not tried it but you should't expect much from it as it's only really designed for video calling so is probably only 0.3 mega pixel or something like that. 😊

Yep. The secondary cameras on all the other N series phones I've had are like this as well (admittedly, that's only the N70 and N95 8GB). I think that camera is intended for use during video calls, where the low resolution/quality isn't much of an issue.

The Nokia site claims that the secondary camera is capable of 640x480, but I don't think that's true. I just tried to take a 640x480 picture using it (from Python - the built in camera app offers no settings for the front facing camera) which gets me an error: "Size not supported for camera". A 320x240 picture was allowed but looked as grungy as you'd expect.

The main camera resolution is 2592 x 1944 as opposed to the secondary camera's resolution of only 640 x 480, so one would expect a vast difference in quality (as demonstrated by these two shots).

Right. I've just noticed something else, too, which is that images from the secondary camera are saved with a JPEG quality of 50% (which is very low) when using the Camera app. I can't see a way around that as Camera doesn't offer any quality options for the secondary camera.
