i know this was asked a while back, but has anyone got any more info for internet radio specifically for N97

I couldn't find the N97 on the nokia list of compatible phones - there's a surprise :icon13:

thanks

Like you, I too miss the Nokia Internet Radio prog:

It did what it said on the box and I find it very useful when travelling abroad, as most of the hotels I stay at have WiFi.

I think it was davecozens who suggested Mobbler as an alternative but I have to say that although I've downloaded it onto the phone I've yet to register and use it.
It can be downloaded free from here:-

http://code.google.com/p/mobbler/

Odd one this, a couple of weeks ago, the Nokia Internet Radio appeared on the Ovi store, then I tried looking fo rit again to add it to the phone, and I couldn't find it....

My conclusion is that when I was surfing Ovi, I think I was looking at Apps for other phones and not the N97, so when I went to d/l it, I was signed in, and looking for specific N97 Apps and of course, twas nowhere to be seen.

Not very helpful, I know.....

I have on occasion been known to wax lyrical about mobbler. Give it a go, it's fab and essentially radio - but you'll have to set up a fre lastFM account too...

why can't anything ever just be EASY !!!!! :hmpf:

thanks anyway dave, i'm not being ungrateful .........

xx

Hey Dave, i downloaded all the stuff and joined last fm like it told me to and everything works fine (ok so it was pretty easy) am i right in thinking though that it's not radio but playlists that peeps have put together?

I did a search for Mozart for instance and i seem to have got a stream of music that people think i would enjoy if i enjoyed Mozart, i stayed with it for 20 mins and got just about everything except Mozart lol, i really need to sit down and work it all out ....... but some clues from you would be appreciated. 😊

OK... I'm converted.

There I've said it.

When I first got the N97 I moaned that the two applications that I most missed from my (eventually) trusty N95 8GB were Conversation and the Nokia Internet Radio.

I liked Nokia's Conversation, I know some people didn't, and I thought it showed great promise. It allowed threaded SMS and MMS conversations with people, a bit like the iPhone, and saved me having to jump and search through my Inbox and Sent items to see a particular conversation. I always felt that this was one of Nokia's finest Beta prog's and deserved so much more attention from them instead of one measly update in a year. It really should have, IMHO, been integrated into firmware releases for S60 v3.

Well, thanks to this forum (and davecozens in particular), my lust was satisfied with Free iSMS. The prog satisfies most of my requirements for Conversation (no MMS) and I have a shortcut for it on my homescreen.

It can be found here:-

http://davecozens.com/n97/showallapps.cfm

The hassle with this prog is that it needs self signing but this proved easier, and quicker, than I thought by following these, almost, "idiot proof" instructions here:-

http://mynokiamobile.org/2009/07/05/how-to-get-a-certificate-and-key-files-for-nokia-s60-mobiles-in-hours/

The other bonus from this is that I'm now able to self sign a whole host of prog's on my phone or PC now!

My other main sulk was that I missed the Nokia Internet Radio beta which, again for me, worked great and allowed me to select music stations worlwide that catered for my kind of music (don't ask).

Again, thanks to davecozens, I downloaded Mobbler to Mass Memory and looked at it once about two weeks ago and saw that I had to "sign-up" and fill in music choices and get a password and at that stage I just left it.

How stupid was I?

I took another look at it today and decided to give it a go and using my PC I signed up and chose my username and password and entered my weird and wonderful choices of music, all in about 5-10 mins. I then entered the username and password into the Mobbler prog and am now listening to back to back music that I really like and have lost count of the times I've said to myself, "I haven't heard that for ages" or "I'd forgotten that one".

I can thoroughly recommend the small amount of effort that it takes to get started with Mobbler.

Mobbler can, once again, be obtained from here:-

http://davecozens.com/n97/showallapps.cfm

and signing up, which is a doddle, can be done here:-

http://www.last.fm/

Thanks to these two prog's I'm starting to warm to the N97 and no longer find myself reaching for the N95 8GB.

Now all I need is for Nokia to sort out the abysmal C: memory, which deters me from downloading certain prog's (of theirs) that rely on it, and the lens scratching (although I haven't experienced this... yet!) and my teddy will be back in the cot. 😊

i would love to have isms but never received an e mail from the website when i tried to get the certificate a few weeks ago, anyway, i've had another go today so hopefully i will have something back in a few days.

how long did it take for them to send your certificate through ?

SomaFM seem to have recognised Nokia's failure at delivering an Internet Radio app for N97 users and have come up with a mobile version of their web site, complete with RAM streams.

Visit http://somafm.com on your Nokia N97 and enjoy 18 great stations.

Very nice! Works great on my 5800. Nice selection of channels. I plan on making a contribution. This is essentially global community radio. Cheers!

we have to be getting close at this point for nokia to release their internet radio app for touch screen phones.

Also i am waiting for conversations to be released. I would much rather have conversations integrated into contacts than a good looking app like free isms.

First excuse me for my english, iam from Sweden. There is internetradio with realplayer. First go to shoutcast.com and get the pls-file you want. Rightclick and open with notes and edith the file, it should look like this http:// 195.222.33.217:8081 and save as ram. Put it in your e-memory in phone. Go to meny apps office filemanager and look for it check so the pls is gone otherwise take it away so the file name is : shoutcast.ram now open it from filemanager and it will work. Next time you will find it in Realplayer. Found this solution on the net and it works Faxe

I can't seem to enter my user name or password in Mobbler on my N97. When I try selecting the "Settings" menu I get a message stating "Unable to execute file for security reasons". When I try going online (handshaking) I get a message stating that my password is incorrect. I don't know how to change my password. Any advice? Thanks.

Regarding the site to get your own certificate, i have followd all the instructions and got he screen ack with the green tick(i guess that means its done) problem is, in the instructions it shows a blue download link, on my screen there is no download link? the only think that is thereis the option to download "signtool.zip"? anyone else have this issue or do i just need to wait a bit longer for the link?
