it does get very hot when it charges, and if i remember correctly there is something in the manual which says the adaptor/charger will get hot but don't worry about it, its normal

well that certainly isn't normal!

Are there approved old chargers for which the adaptor will work, or is it specified to work with anything? Not good!

yade wrote:If like me you were too lazy to get the charger out of the box and just used the adapter with an old charger please be careful. I noticed this earlier when my phone was charging on my desk:

I salute your laziness!, if only i could view the pics, damn work network....

Peace,

DK

celios wrote:OMG! You need to let Nokia know about this, the adapter is intended for use with the old chargers and that shouldn't happen.

Your house could have burnt down! 😮

Well I was charging the phone on the wooden edge of my bed but there may have been a risk if I had done it on my covers, quite often i put the phone on charge and just throw it on the bed.

I used the 5800 charger which you would hope is compatible.

The adapter has a socket for both big and small chargers so you would expect that it has complete compatibility.

The adaptor should only have a regulator in it to limit the voltage and probably some current limiting in there but should be able to handle the constant current that the chargers kick out

Wow thats bad. I used my adapter with a Nokia Car charger with the needlepoint plug type for about 30 mins and left it, went to unplug it and thought I'd burnt myself on the adapter it was so hot. Glad I didn't leave it long enough to start melting!

[edit] the car charger I used the adapter with: Nokia DC-4 Output:5.7v/890mA

Eek!

Presumably you've raised it with Nokia so they can say that there are "No know issues with the generic charger adapter"

*sigh*

I've used my adapter a few times and have noticed it gets quite toasty. I was going to ask on here if it's normal, but a couple of people here have confirmed that.

But the picture yade has shown us.... jikes!!!

I only use the adapter with the car charger from my N95.

I use a cradle and luckily the air con cools the adapter lol.

Dogdy none the less as it does get quite hot.😮

yade wrote:Sure thing, no probs. What will the article be about?

Thanks.! My article will be posted over on Nokiausers.net later today. It will be about my own experiences using this small adapter, as i too found it to be very hot whilst charging with an older type Nokia charger. So too have many other people experienced these adapters getting quite hot.

Could you confirm the Nokia model number of the older type Nokia charger you used, and let me know the input, and output values please?

Thanks in advance.

Jesus, thanks for the warning! I haven't used it properly yet, just a few minutes here and there with my car charger, thank god I saw this before using it for a 3 hour drive!
