Helppp! More issues - Maps and Memory helper

Hello,

Got another issue now - I updated to maps 3 (not sure which version) about a week later, I get asked to download maps 3.1 - When I did this it deleted all the maps on the phone - not a problem I say to myself and reload the maps that evening (even though I had to use the nav that day and had to settle for google losing my location every 3 seconds)

Now the maps are loaded again, but still they do not appear and download on the fly.

Lastly, is says I need to download maps 3.1 (even though I have already), done this twice and its still saying I need to download 3.1.

(oh and its doing the same with the memory updater 7.something thing as well)

Any ideas on what to do?

i've downloaded all the England maps and upgraded my Maps to v3.1

it seems to work fine, when i use the Nav it does use data, but not as much as before, not sure why

but i have the same problem, in that if i got into SW updater it asks me to update maps to 3.1 and also C memory update, even though i've done both (about 3 times)

lol

lol - Well I have just had to delete a load of stuff to try and download it again - maybe third time is the charm - I would hope it is deleting installation files and original folders when going through?

Time for a hard reset when I have the time to do it methinks - I can't get over how bad some things on this phone are - Nokia have their biggest % markup on this phone compared to any other they have ever released - you can see why in the quality.....

My Maps 2.0 that came with the phone ran a heck of a lot better than version 3.0 or 3.1.

Biggest complaint that I have is that it LAGS where you are and doesn't give you turn instructions until you are at or past the turn.

If Nokia doesn't do something VERY LOUD and VERY FAST with this application, users are most likely going to opt for a 3rd-party Maps application like Garmin or Google Maps and uninstall the Nokia version to save space.

My N97 also keeps reminding me to upgrade to Maps 3.1 eventhough I have done that several times already. I must say, Maps 3.1 is complete junk and unusable in any way. I keeps loosing GPS about every 30 seconds and keeps recalculating the route constantly. Also, eventhough I have downloaded the latest map and voices with maploader, it keeps transferring about 1MB data over the air.
Nokia urgently needs to adress this problem and I hope they have an usable upgrade soon.

I think this is a bug with Maps 3.1.

If you check the About menu in Maps after the 3.1 update, it still shows 3.01. My guess is that they screwed up with the 3.1 release and didn't update the version number so the updater continually tries to upgrade Maps. The odd thing is, it keeps wanting to re-install the "C: drive update" as well.

I agree Maps 3.1 is 'not good'. Google Maps seems better, at least it gets a GPS lock quickly. Hopefully they will either fix Maps and allow us to download it, or more likely fix it in a firmware update in late Aug/early Sept.

In my experience, although Maps is ok for walking around a city when you are on business or holiday, you really need a proper GPS solution (even if that is Garmin or TomTom on a mobile) for driving directions.

Sorry guys but it depends on which country you are in.
Maps 3.1 works fab here in scandinavia and not at all in Germany (or Britain for what I hear) . Don't worry though: maps updates come at lest weekly.

Also, keep in mind that everytime you do the 3.1 upgrade, the message on screen notifies you that you will need to load the maps back on again as they get erased. So run the update once and leave it at that 😊
