Time Machine

I dearly love the look and feel of the Time Machine application--a count-up/count-down timer with alarm.

Functionality though needs a little work...I wanted to use it while working in the yard to remind when when to move the sprinkler.

So I set it for 30 minutes and then locked the screen and put it into my pocket.

About 10 minutes later I checked it and found that when the screen-locked, the application "stopped".

What use is it then for a timer if when the screen times-out it stops?!??!

Apparently their new version works in the background, but I haven't tested this out yet.

[EDIT] Just tested it - worked fine in the background and with the phone locked.

Yes, there's been an update, but NO it doesn't REALLY work in the background.

Thus it cannot work as a countdown and alarm clock in the background.

The reason is acknowledged by the author...it is because it is a Flash application.

On the N97, Flash only runs in the foreground.

So...to give TimeMachine the appearance of being able to run in the background it just checks the clock and then updates the counter to match.

There is no way it can be in the background and detect a countdown to zero and alarm.

The new version has a lot of significant new features, though and is still considered a must-have application!

Peculiar.

When I tried it the other day it worked... but now it doesn't.

Both times I set a countdown for 1 minute, pressed the menu key twice to bring myself back to the home screen, and then locked the phone. Yesterday, the alarm went off at the expected time, but today it didn't. I went back to TimeMachine and it was showing a countdown from 9hrs 59mins.

My guess is it went past zero and then continued from the top.
