... but the individual games are pricy at $14 - $20, considering their primitive nature ...
nice webby
Not to mention that booster takes up and needs alot of memory
Yep, and I've just uninstalled it. Free'd up over a meg! Pretty pointless software really.

What you have to remmebr that Appforge (VB Runtime) is much more suited to the Industrial/Work scene than the lesiure and gaming scene. They have a lot of 'hidden' software in side companies for tonnes of stuff.
Okay out here you won't see a benefit, but inside big copanies it makes adoption of Symbian technology a lot more attractive.
Thumbs up to the boys
I'm not going to let bloated M$ software to ruin Symbian quality. Not going to let VB run on my phone.
Jimbo
...and, with the Booster installed, I'm not able anymore to backup the phone (with the standard backup utility from SE)
Trinity,
you're not the only one. My P800 would stop half way through and wouldn't back up an Appforge file.

On top of not being able to backup P800 with Appforge installed there are further problems:
I tried to install a number of Appforge powered products.
Although installation of the first was successful it was impossible to keep up installing other applications (even from same developer or another party). At the latest stage of installation (after choosing the media to install) the apps stopped installing, presenting me with the error:
Cannot create a file when that file already exists,
It has nothing to do with resetting either P800 or the installing computer (Ive checked all this).
It obviously has to do with a file that the first successfully installed Appforge powered app has already installed in P800, which cannot be overwritten by other AppForge powered apps which use the same file.
If they do not fix this it certainly defeats the point.
HOW DID YOU SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE THE SAME !!!!!

To work around the backup problem, just hit "Skip" when it puts up the error message. Don't hit "Retry" or the backup will fail when you subsequently hit "Skip".
Appforge have put up a FAQ about this here http://support.appforge.com/cgi-bin/AFRightNow.cfg/php.exe/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=619.
(It may require you to be logged it to their site.)
Well thats just pants and they're blaming the SE sync software! I blame Microcraps VB software! Good on Opera to snub the MS Smartphone OS 😊.

[quote="serge"]HOW DID YOU SOLVE THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE THE SAME !!!!!
Problem and solution as follows:
When you install more than one files which are more than 8 characters long and start with the same name as others, they get named in the P800 \system\install directory: i.e Pocket~1.sis Pocket~2.sis e.t.c. This is then a problem for P800 file system. In that way Pocket Vineyard or Pocket Gourmet could not get installed following installation of Pocket Bartender. The solution is:
RENAME THE FILE TO INSTALL, if its own (original) file name coincides to a point with a previously installed, leading to an xxxxxx~1.sis ...~2.sis e.t.c in P800 \system\install directory. So I just had to rename Pocket Vineyard.sis to just Vineyard.sis and it worked.
As far as backup is concerned, every time I need to backup I just uninstall just the Appforge booster, I backup and reinstall it again. Not very slick butit allows me to feel the security of backing up. Appforge is working on it. The "skip" choice mentioned elsewhere only works with Nokia not SE P800.

Hav enot found the need to install appforge yet. The games and programs out from L3 are just pure crap for the price.
I agree, but I haven enough space so if memory runs out this will be the first appplication to heaven.
I've shown the phone to quite a few people, and they've said "GREAT! Want it." Then they go looking at the software that's available (of they can find it) and back off the idea. "Everything costs money" or somesuch lameexcuse, but the perception is that Symbian programmers are not like the Palm or (to a lesser degree) the PPC group - they want to be paid for doing all apps, even tutorials! I can't imagine paying for Luner Lander.
They're feeling "nickel-and-dime'd" by the system and are afraid to come to the platform.
Part of it is that Symbian is confusing - what apps work with which system? 60? 70? UIQ? What loads and runs and what doesn't? And part of it is that there's no ubiquitous website to track apps on, like Versiontracker.com or Palmgear. It only adds to the discomfort level.
There's great maturity in the Palm market, and the PPC one is getting that way too. Symbian needs to help steer the group with common interface guidelines and focus. We need to create a marketplace away from the shopfronts pretending to be user websites.
And don't buy Luner Lander. Please. It sends the wrong message.
Indeed.
I'm a bit disheartened by the fact that it seems everything out for the P800, including games, costs money. Before anyone flame me, I had presumed the open ended C++/JAVA platform would mean a raft of open-source goodness, but it seems this isn't the case when it comes to the P800.
