Yahoo! E-mail

Hi All,

Any idea why I can't log into my e-mail account. I put my address and password in and it sets it all up but then tries 3 times and says my password is wrong and it's not.

I tried an old account and that worked first time, but then it didnt work 2nd or 3rd time

You don't by-any-chance have your account "open" on another computer do you?

Yahoo has an annoying feature of leaving an account open for up to two weeks on a PC to save you the trouble of logging in again.

Problem is...if you use multiple computers, the one that is logged in will prevent the others from being able to log in.

are you trying to access your yahoomail from the internet browser? which i am able to do without problem, using either desktop site or their mobile site

if you're trying to get your email using nokia messaging, then this will only work if you pay yahoo to upgrade your account to YAHOO!PLUS, which allows for POP3 forwarding

if i am wrong and anyone is able to get their yahoo email "pushed" to their n97 without paying for yahoo plus, please let me know

Thanks

I was trying via the messaging bit yeah, cos i wanted to see if the widget was any good. Didnt realise you had to upgrade to use it, i can use it fine in the browser.

I'm also always logged into my yahoo on 2 pcs, home and work!

Guess i'll just use the browser then, thanks for your help guys

That's not entirely true...I have a "free" Yahoo account in addition to my ISP-provided-through-Yahoo account and I have no trouble "pulling" from it.

It set itself up as IMAP4 though, not as POP3.

is that using nokia messaging?

i would appreciate it if you could give me an idiots guide to doing that on my n97? i tried setting it up using the wizard and it doesn't work (constantly asks for password, never actually goes to get email!)

i got no trouble setting yahoo mail too. went to add email, put my email address and password and it did the rest for me, works really good too, i have received and sent email many time with no problems. BTW its just a free yahoo mail

one thing ive noticed, i set it up on my 3G connection(outside my house), but when im at home and its going to use WIFI for connection it constantly asks for username/password.

how did you set it up, on your wifi or GPRS connection? it seems to be locked to a connection for security reasons

I'd second the request for a guide, all i did was put my e-mail address ([email protected]) and password in, it set up imap4 as well, but just kept telling me my password was wrong, which it wasnt..

i tried setting up my email in messages, keeps asking for username and password over and over and over again.

i managed to do it!

go into messaging and try and set it up as normal (in built messaging, not NOKIA messaging)

you will then (probably) get the same prob i did where it keeps asking for password. cancel this and go direct into messaging>options>settings> email - and enter you password directly into the incoming email and outgoing email sections

i did this and it just started to work

I'm using the one where you go into messaging and click add new inbox. Its set to a default connection, which i assumed would just use my internet destinations, i'll try setting it manually to O2 web

That didn't work, still just keeps asking for my username and password. There is an option to change a port or turn security on, does anyone else have those? My incoming mail settings are;
username - my e-mail
password - my password, its 12 digits, symbols and caps, that wouldnt be a problem would it?
incoming mail server; imap.n.mail.yahoo.com
Access point: O2 mobile web
Mailbox Name; Yahoo! Mail
Mailbox type: IMAP4
Security: Off
Port: Default

Nope, mine still asks, "Save password to mail settings?" then doesnt work 3 times and gives the username/password error

I've had problems with some Symbian password manager programs before not being able to handle an exclamation point ("!"😉.

If you have one in your password, try changing your password to something without it.

Changed it to an old easy one but it still didn't work :icon13:

mine kept asking for username and pw, try cancelling. then going into settings and incoming email and into the password field, enter your pw again manually and then come out of it

then go into inbox and try getting your mail, it worked for me, don't ask me why!

Ok, this is pissing me off, i had to change my password to a newer easy one, it's 8 digits, lowercase letters and numbers. It connected first time and downloaded my e-mails, great, it's working.

It wont ever update itself though, now when i try and connect it manually, it gives me the same crap about username and password, even though its exactly right, i've gone into the options and changed it manually in there too, but it wont sodding connect. Only the first time i change the password, not afterwards. Which makes it pretty Freakin pointless to keep a check on your e-mails!

I just went "dinking" around in my Yahoo Mail settings and was surprised to find that it would not allow me to change some things. It kept prompting me to create a new account. This map be something particular to IMAP accounts.

Have you tried deleting the Email account from the phone and recreating it?

Lastly, have you tried the next desperate measure that the online support people say....rebooting? Sometimes that clears these weird problems.

BTW...I plan on switching to Profimail this weekend, but have to do a little more research first on a few things before I do.
