I use the built-in Web browser on the N97 to view 10 RSS feeds. I have two feeds that update every four hours, and the remaining update one a day.
Of late I have noticed that while browsing feeds in the feed window, sometimes the browser will exit back to the main menu on its own. At first I thought that maybe I was touching the red end-call button, but now I am certain that is not the case.
Other times, while selecting the actual web page to view from browser feed display, the page will load but then the N97 becomes unresponsive to the touchscreen, menu button, call buttons, keyboard or power button. The only way to restore functionality is to remove the battery and reboot--sometimes TWICE as about half the time, the first reboot freezes on the Nokia display (without playing that awfully bothersome Nokia tune).
I am wondering if maybe it is a memory shortage issue...I normally run with about 20 MB free on C: (I clear the cache frequently), as I had a similar problem with abnormal terminations with Opera Mini when running it from the C: drive.
Anyone else have these observations on the Web browser?
I have a similar problem with my N97. I have just upgraded from the N95 8gb. In my opinion the N97's built in browser is vastly inferior to the N95 8gb.
I had the original N95 that had browser issues due to lack of internal memory. The N95 8gb eradicated this problem with its 8gb shared memory.
The flagship N97 with 32gb of internal memory seems to have taken a step BACK!
Is the N97's internal memory shared? Or purely for storage?
This is a very frustrating issue for me as I use the internet very often and find pages closing when opening a new one. An issue my N95 8gb NEVER HAD.
Yes, yes, I've had these crash and lock-up issues from day one with the web browser. Each firmware update v10->v11->v12 has made it a little better, but I can still get a crash doing something quite trival (like a google search) from time to time.
Fingers, toes and everything else crossed that some new firmware in September will sort this out once and for all.
I have also noticed another issue when using networking sites such as facebook. When using facebook on the internet rather than the phones FB app, the browser loads the WAP version first. After clicking on the "Full Site" link, i am able to use the full html version but only on my homepage!
Clicking on a link at the top reverts BACK to WAP version!
Is there any way of using HTML ONLY?
I haven't bought a decent phone with it's "alleged" excellent internet browsing capabilities to have to use WAP anyway!!!
