Anyone using Opera Mini as opposed to the standard web browser?
Is it much faster? thinking if I should download it and use that
Opera Mini any good?
Yes, it is a good program for what it does.
Opera Mini uses a Proxy server to pre-process web pages and then render them in a format more suitable for cell phones (display size and navigation).
It reduces the size of graphics and overall cuts down the amount of data to be transmitted to your phone--saving you money.
For many web pages (like BBC News) this is the best way to access from a cell phone since the pages are so big, so complex (with organization and scripting) that even some desktop computers have difficulty processing them.
Be sure to install it on E: drive instead of C: as when it runs low on memory (in its cache) it will exit with an error message.
I think it's excellent but don't use it. The problem for me is that the fonts are too big, and when I change the font to small the menus get small too and are then almost impossible to use.
Its a shame because the technology is great and the pages load fast and move around the page as smoothly as on the Iphone. If it wasn't for the menu size I'd definatly use it.

It's work well in my N97 & i like to surf with it!
it installed on E: driver 😃
I use it as my primary browser and it's basically very good. There is one fairly big bug at the moment though. It works just fine with the d-pad however.
The small font is also really small, but I quite like that.
Just a quick heads up regarding how opera mini handles secure connections.
I'm not sure if you guys are aware that opera mini doesn't have true end to end encrypted connections to https servers (the ones with the padlocks).
The encryption can't be end to end because of the way opera mini compresses pages. A secure page is decrypted at the opera servers then re-encrypted before being sent to the phone (at one stage it used to decrypt the page and send it to the phone unencrypted!! I think that has now been resolved).
Bottom line is if you're concerned about security you should be aware the secure pages you visit with opera mini are not truly secure. If opera's servers were ever hacked anyone visiting a secure site with opera mini would be vulnerable to a man in the middle attack.
I'm not saying it's likely but most people aren't even aware that their secure connections are being broken by opera.
That's simply not true. Read up before posting FUD.
since opera mini is free i see no reason why you wouldn't install it for yourself and try it out. I use it a good amount for forum posting since its so fast. I also use the regular browser because it provides a richer experience with flash and java script.

Yeah it is!
If you know anything about https you would know what I'm talking about. It is not possible to get end to end encryption using the method opera mini uses to speed up browsing
If you need more proof this is from the opera mini website
Is there any end-to-end security between my handset and for example paypal.com or my bank?
No. If you need full end-to-end encryption, you should use a full Web browser such as Opera Mobile.
Opera Mini uses a transcoder server to translate HTML/CSS/JavaScript into a more compact format. It will also shrink any images to fit the screen of your handset. This translation step makes Opera Mini fast, small, and also very cheap to use. To be able to do this translation, the Opera Mini server needs to have access to the unencrypted version of the Web page. Therefore no end-to-end encryption between the client and the remote Web server is possible.

Instead of being such a dick why don't you read up before posting ignorant claptrap.
Good and quick browser. But crash too often in my case. I type a message in the forum, press Post and boom. It's crashe, and i have to do all over again. Kinda sad. Btw it is installed on E:
